Any Ebay seller that lists an item with a Resrve Price IMHO should just put their stuff on Buy It Now pricing.
It is frustrating beyond belief to see a bid of 9.99 ( reserve price not met) put in a bid and be told it STILL hasn't been met and the seller doesn't have to sell it if their reserve price isn't met....grrr just tell me you want 47 gazillion dollars for the stupid thing and quit yanking my chain and wasting my time! I got things to do, sell, buy...
Whew...ok I feel better LOL

When I sell on Ebay I never use a Reserve Price. I use a start price set at the minimum I'll take for the item. That way the bidder can see if he/she wants to bid on that item.

I've seen items with a reserve price which got a lot more then what they wanted. One in particular was a claw from a dionosaur. The reserve was $1000, and the guy ended up getting more then $5000 for it.

Hey Lesa, I know what you mean. If you have a "reserve price", why not just set the starting bid and be done with it. I've never really understood the game playing.

I do not like dealing with a reserve price either. If you put in a proxy bid well above the reserve price..you will never know unless someone out bids you. I think ebay should do away with reserved pricing and sellers should charge actual shipping on items. I saw some items I wanted today but shipping was in the $15 range above what it would actual cost to ship the item. To me that is just like stealing.....

I agree on the outrageous shipping charges. I guess they use that to make up for the fees ebay charges to list the item. Hmm maybe we should come up with our own auction site

This is why I can't Ebay- I try and try- The wife and I have even tossed around the idea of opening a store- But it is all these stupid games the "Power" sellers play- Well I just can't bring myself to play them too- If you want a certain prise on an item- start the auction there- none of this reserve stuff-

I don't see too many auctions with reserve prices on them, so I don't think it is rampant, but I agree it is a pain. Sellers do that under the belief that an item is more attractive when there are other people bidding on it, so they put up a ridiculously low starting price to start people bidding, but have a more realistic reserve price so that they don't end up giving the item away too cheaply. I wonder if that psychology really works or not?

I've been buying and selling on eBay for almost 6 years. The reserve price is just a pain and generally I won't even bid if I click on an item and see that "reserve has not been met." According to eBay's selling tips, a low opening bid is supposed to generate attention, even if there is a reserve. I disagree.
Maybe there is some mentatility out there that loves the mystery of trying to get to the minimum bid.

Xena
Our own auction site, ummm not a bad idea. A site for items the members have interests in, yeah that would work. Do you think the word would get out and some of the "IDIOTS" from Ebay and other sites might join to pull their sleazy tricks on it?
I thinl its worth discussing. Comeon guys lets have your opinions.

when i see that i have never bid but i have watched and allmost every time i did the price was sky high so they just did it to mask the fact that they had a high set price so when i started to get the drift i said heck with those and just go right by now i dont even watch them anymore hahaha --- they should just put a buyit now on the item and be up front to start
