I was at a rock shop recently and bought a few slabs. I don't know what most of them are. Can anyone help? I know that 1 and 2 are picture jasper of some sort. 15 is snowflake obsidian.

6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13 and maybe 14 look like some good crazy lace. 9 is imperial jasper. 5 maybe rhyolite/wonderstone or rolling hills dolomite (can't tell by the picture). 3 maybe polychrome jasper?. 8 some kind of lace that I can't remember. Those are my guesses. But, I'm sure Mel will come along and correct me. I learn from the master.

Ditto on the crazy lace and Imperial Jasper. #4+5 are Rolling Hill Dolomite ( also called Oaxaca Travertine, Desert Wave etc) #8 is Zebra Lace Agate I'd go with polychrome on #3 too but just a guess.#1+2 are one of the Oregon/Idaho picture jasper types, maybe Wildhorse but so many look alike...Mel

Polychrome is totally cool. Tricky ID's on the picture stuff.

Thanks for the help everyone, jamesp, I suppose I'll make some cabs with them and tumble the scraps.

You did really good picking out some good stuff. Makes me want to go back to that store now. Are the slabs still all just in random bins to sort through? Last time I was there they were not very knowledgeable about slab I.D. and that was fine with me because they sold some high quality stuff way too cheap.

Chuck Yep, there were a lot of tubs with a lot of really boring slabs. My wife spent most of her time sorting through them. I'm sure we missed some good ones, but it's time consuming going through all of them. They had some nice specimens and were super nice people. Great Lakes Underground
