Let me see if I have this straight: 1. You were wrong. 2. You admit you were wrong. 3. You try to get out of the contract you agreed to. 4. When the seller gets upset - you smack him with negative feedback. Now I understand - you're the self-appointed e-bay police. Well you have your work cut out for you because I've seen lots of auctions out there with $29.95 for shipping. So get buying and don't forget the negative feedback. Toad it sounds as if you are taking this personally. If you are not the seller nor associated with the seller, why are you getting hostile? You may not be but IMHO that is how you are coming across. Green has explained his reasoning, you have stated why you think what you do. There is no reason for anyone to start flaming anyone else. Just agree to disagree.

Ignorance bothers me. My words are definitely sarcastic, but I don't think they are hostile. I can definitely see why the seller got frustrated with the e-mails from greenmann. If the arguements in his e-mails weren't any better thought out than the posts in this thread, it would have driven me up the wall.
Just because I don't have a personal stake in the transaction, doesn't mean I can't comment. Right is right after all. Sometimes I get that John Wayne complex. I would never bid on an auction that had outrageous shipping like this one did, but at the same time I don't like seeing an 'innocent' being shafted. Just because someone is a member of this board doesn't mean they're right.
Can't really agree to disagree, because everytime I put my 2 cents up someone is telling me I'm wrong. I'm just too juvenile to let it slide.
But maybe I'll shut up now (I know, too late).

OK, I was gonna let this go... but if you want to get personal about it Toad, so be it. Sorry Cher, I'll be good after this, I promise.
Not reasoned out? From where I sit my actions and arguments are reasonable. I don't understand your own reasoning that I should simply bend over if someone decides to charge unreasonable shipping rates, and run a scam on low initial bids to avoid fees, but whatever. Your entitled to your opinion. I would appreciate the same respect. Truthfully that was only half the reason I gave him negative feedback, as I have clearly stated several times.
I didn't post his replies to my questions, but if they had been posted in a forum like this they would likely be considered a flame. I don't know how you do business, but I was taught that you never ridicule or tongue lash a customer, paying or otherwise, especially before a sale is completed. Its just plain unproffessional. I hesitate to call it "rude" because that is something of a subjective thing... but if the shoe fits, he should wear it. And by the way, the second and third e-mails I sent him were to answer specific questions he asked. I responded in as factual a manner as I could why I felt his shipping and handling were excessive. That only made him angrier. Not reasoned? Ignorant? Whatever.
I am sure he was frustrated with my mail... I was questioning the shipping price and asking for a lesser charge. No one likes to hear that. Does that give him license to be rude or beligerant? No matter what I said, his response was uncalled for. I suppose I should have made that part of my comment of why I gave him the rating I did, but the stupid box only allows so many charecters and I ran out of room to explain myself fully. Shame on E-bay for that. But if my negative feedback makes even one potential bidder take a second look at his shipping charges, I can live with the negative feedback he gave me.
There are many ways to deal with disgruntled customers. If he had simply stated the reasons for his high shipping rates in a reasonable manner, this would not have come up. He chose to treat me poorly, and so I gave him the rating I felt he deserved. If you don't like it Toad, I really could care less. That reflects more on you than it does on me.
You call me ignorant, but since you only know part of the story that seems rather ironic to me. It also tells me that you are reading into what I said something other than what is simply going on here. I am sorry you are bitter about whatever it is that lead to that comment. Dunno and don't want to know the particulars.
But enough, it's over and done. Flame away, I am no longer listening.

5 carats = 1 gram 30 grams= 1 ounce
5 X 30= 150 carats per ounce
1000 divided by 150=6.67 ounces
Yeah - I'd say the shipping charges were a little high to say the least. That's where they try to get you sometimes. You can send it easily for less then $4.00.

Hey All
I buy and sell on Ebay and when buying I read the whole ad including the S & H charges. If they are not listed I contact the seller before I bid. After I have all the relative info I can make my buy no buy decision. If after I bid I see an error on my part than its my fault and I try to suck it up and live with my being human.
After I received the merchandise I make a judgment call as to if the items are as described in the ad, were they shipped promptly etc. if my answers are yes I leave positive feedback, If I find a problem with the item I contact the seller and try to make a correction.
If the seller refuses to respond or does not act on my complaint I file a complaint with Ebay or Paypal. They take it from there and decide who is at fault and how to adjust the problem.
In well over 1200 auctions I've only had to do this once and it was resolved in my favor. Ironically I'm about to file another complaint about a tumbler that the seller said worked except it had a broken belt but when I received it the motor was burned up. It will take several weeks to resolve this problem and I'll advise how it came out.
Read before you bid, if uncertain ask the seller questions before you bid. Don't like the answers you receive "DON'T BID."

I know this post is old but have to add... My 2 cents -
I agree with Toad on this one. Can't understand why would leave negative feedback even though the vendor gave Green the opportunity to cancel the order! And still...you leave negative feedback and then run his name through the muck on this message board!
[glow=red,2,300]Unbelievable!! [/glow]
You made a mistake. The vendor gave you the option to back out and yet you paid because you "knew you were wrong"...but still you feel it's necessary to slander the vendor on this message board. The logic behind your reasoning is impeccable (sarc).
I apologize to the rest of the board members if you feel that my statements are too harsh but I feel that Greenmans post is totally out of line and it's not fair to the E-Bay vendor - bitonjewelers -
