I recently bought a new Makita wet stone grinder. Last summer I made a stone bowl out of a rock, but only roughed it out with a cup wheel on a dry angle grinder. It's been bugging me ever since that the bowl was not shiny. Now I can rest again. I'm not sure what to do with the bowl. Store crosses? Pudding stone bowl? Speaking of pudding stones, that was my other project. About four hours later...

Pretty cool projects . Could start making birdbaths , wouldn't need to be as deep . People love their birds .

Color me impressed and intrigued. This was all done dry? What were the steps (wheel grits)?

Color me impressed and intrigued. This was all done dry? What were the steps (wheel grits)? edit - Makita wet stone grinder doh... off to Google... I think the steps were something like this: Harbor Freight cup grinder, then the rest were diamond pads from Tool Jungle. 30, 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000. A pad labeled "buff" came in the set. It looked like the diamond pads, but I'm not sure that it had any grit in it. I didn't notice any difference after using it, so I used aluminum oxide polish with it and still noticed no difference. I'd like to get a felt pad to use with polish. Water runs out the middle of the pad to keep the dust down. The original bowl was done dry with a regular angle grinder with a diamond blade, followed by the cup grinder dry. Way too much dust. The angle grinder was also way too fast for diamond pads.

Does the splash shield come off for doing large flat surfaces?

I think so, but it's rubber with little brush bristles along the bottom. So it wouldn't get in the way for doing your floors. It would keep you drier too.

I like that bowl a LOT! I'd love to add that to my list of things to do, but...I'm going to have to live until I'm 130 to get my short list done as it is!

Will that wet grinder handle a 24 inch pet wood trunk? That pudding stone looked great.

I am surprised you were able to use flat pads to polish the bowl shape. I would have guessed you had to use convex pads

I am surprised you were able to use flat pads to polish the bowl shape. I would have guessed you had to use convex pads I bought a flexible backer. I also used it on an angle, which is wearing out the edges of the pads quickly, I might have to look into the convex ones.

I have worn out the edges on flat pads, even on flat rocks.

Will that wet grinder handle a 24 inch pet wood trunk? That pudding stone looked great. I don't see why not. I read a lot of reviews and they looked good. The biggest complaint was the hose connection. You can't screw a garden hose to it directly. You need a Gardena quick connect. Not a big deal, just have to order one when you order the grinder. There are also air powered grinders, but I don't have a large compressor.

Really cool work Rob, they turned out great. I've been contemplating buying a set of those diamond pads for my rock grinder.

For doing slabs and sawn faces I have my eyes on this new technology. Wettable diamond floor polishing pads for concrete and granite floors. 13", 17" and bigger pads. Rated at 30,000 sq ft of floor. I bought a 17" 200 pad. Impressive. They run about $20/pad. Video using floor pads. I would mount them on a lap arrangement. www.cleaningstuff.net/twister-diamond-floor-pads-3000-435517

I didn't notice an electrical outlet or water spigot up there. I'll have to look around better next time I'm there.
