OK...I had another breakdown, and my therapist prescribed more rocks. I drove down to the Bend /Redmond area of OR in Nov. and brought back 500 lbs of medicine.
It wasn't enough...
So it was back for more. This time I visited Richardson's Rock Ranch (north of Madras in bum@#$% no where) a couple of weeks ago. Winter can be iffy in this region, and the mountain passes to get into Central Oregon can be a nightmare, but I was spared. I visited this place last spring, and they had piles of stone everywhere. All kinds of local agate and jasper and petrified wood. A perfect place to hand-pick the perfect medicine...
There's digging here, too for a variety of agates/jaspers/thunder eggs, but I'm too lazy.
Check it out: richardsonrockranch.com/
Here's some pics of the "house:
Notice the rocks with "plugs" missing in the foreground. Those were cut for making spheres, which the rock shop is famous for. I'm constantly searching for cutoffs because they're usually perfectly sized and high quality.
Some of the varieties There are lots of others:
Picture Jasper
Golden Moss Agate
Carnelian (My favorite as the bags attest...)
The Goody Pile
And the Big Daddy of all rocks...
This place is way cool, and would make a fantastic "destination" for you adventurous folk. The Richardsons (I think they run the place...) are friendly and will tell you about the region and it's bounty. There are probgably 1/2 a dozen other ranches in the area that offer digging at various times, but this place is the only one with an established shop.
SO, maybe this 500 lbs will cure my ail.
Alas, sadly, I'm now eyeballing one of those 65 lb rollers. So the disease is rampant...
