I bought some fluorite for myself for Christmas. I haven't been happy with the way the rough tumbling has gone. It hasn't made it to the Lot-O yet. I've done a lot of searching, both on this site and the Internet in general, and I haven't found any great methods. There are some people here who have tried. I believe jamesp and Drummond Island Rocks have both tried. The Rock Shed has a recipe.

The oversea cats manage to tumble polish it stacker. I got a few polished pieces out of about 8 pounds in a Vibrasonic 14 pound vibe using a lot of grit steps like you are proposing. I used tumbled glass media like 3/8". Next time I might crush some of the crappy fluorite and use it for media. Or some other soft media. I would sure go for a lot of grit steps though. Like your list. Certain colors did much better than others. It must vary in hardness color to color. My theory- Fluorite is super soft and rounds in the rotary with SiC 80 in no time. It will take a polish. It will also frost super easy. The frosting is the problem. If frosting is the problem then padding is the cure. Thicker slurry-plastic pellets-softer media-organic padding-something. Last photo is the very few that polished. Good luck. www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/sets/72157649670555302

First time I ran it got through the tumbler. Moved to vibrated on the polish step dry with corn Cobb. It all fractured.
