Hello, I am new here, and I wanted to show some photos of my favorites from the last couple of years.
There are rocks I have found in my landscape rocks. My kids always pick up the granite, but I have learned they don't tumble too well. I am not sure what these are (chert?), but I like them.
I think these are quartzite nodules I fine easily in my landscape rocks. Not super interesting, but I like them and they are quick to tumble.
Here is some needles blue and mule canyon that I purchased from Stone Age Industries. Took a long time in the 1st stage. Overall they came out pretty good I think.
Here is some flint I purchased from ebay
Here is some Botswana I purchased from a local rock show.
Here are mostly Lake Superior agates that I purchased from a local rock show.
Bahia agates from the Rock Shed. These are always interesting.
Obsidian purchased from Ebay and Apache tears from the Rock Shed. Took me awhile to figure out to polish the obsidian without little dings. Not perfect, but pretty good.
Owyee japser from ebay. I am partial to blue rocks, so I like these.
Small rutilated quartz from the Rock Shed. Some pieces came out pretty nice.
Here is a close-up of one
Sea Jasper from the Rock Shed. This stuff was pretty awful. Super pitted. These were the only halfway decent rocks.
Hematite from Gems by Mail. Not an easy tumble, but pretty cool I think.
Mookite Jasper from a rock shop in Colorado. Really like this stuff.
Crazy lace from the Rock Shed and from a rock shop in Colorado. Love the variation of this rock.
A couple nicer pieces.
And finally my favorite - bubblegum agate I purchased from a local rock show. This was one of my first tumbles, and is still one of my favorite. I just love how they turn out.
That is enough I think. Have a lot of rough to tumble, so I will post more when I get some polished. I love looking at all the polished rocks posted here, so I thought it was my turn to share some.

Really nice array of different tumbles in this lot. The bubble gum agate is really an interesting find, and takes a killer polish. Keep your barrels turning, and welcome to the board.

All completed with a rotary? If so, would you care to offer how you handled the obsidian? I've got some that I'll be working with down the road.
Welcome to the forum.

Dave I should have mentioned for all these the first stage was done in a rotary - Thumlers Model B, and then completed in a Lot-O. I didn't intend to get the Lot-O, but it was very obvious after a couple months that it would take months, and months, and months to get enough rocks to do stages 2-4 in the Thumlers B. I only pull about a pound a rocks each week ready to move on to the next step, so I run the Lot-O only about once a month. It did take some trial and error to get the obsidian shined without any bruising, and if you look closely you can still see some imperfections, but I am happy with it.

I've seen many of the tutorials/posts where folks have been finishing with a vibe, so that's why I asked. I haven't gotten one yet (a vibe), so you made me wonder if you used a rotary or not. Thanks for letting me know. Dave

Those are all lovely tumbles. My favourite is the needles blue and mule canyon, I love all the striations in them, mesmerizing!!! I am currently working on my first ever tumble so seeing all of these beautiful pictures makes me excited and overwhelmed simultaneously.

Wow, great post. I especially like how you identified the source and left some comments on how they were to tumble. I have been really curious about that bubblegum and wow it is cooler looking than I had imagined. So far I haven't had very good luck buying rough through the mail. It seems like it is hardly ever how I expect it to be. I've really been struggling with the sea Jasper myself so I feel a little better that I'm not the only one. I really enjoyed studying every photo!

I don't have anywhere local to by rough except for our one rock show, so I have to gamble with buying online. In the past I have just purchased whatever was cheapest, and that doesn't always work out, so I am trying to be more selective.

Nice job on those. You've got some nice material, a lot of variety. Buying online takes some skill, some luck and a good eye. I definitely look around for the vendor that has the most promising rough for each type I'm looking for. Yet to find a one-stop shop for all materials. Keep rolling those rocks.

Fantastic set of tumbles. The Mookaite is killer looking. But my favorite is definitely: from Tennessee!
