Yeah, it is a little deceptive, though if you are paying attention you'll know that Thumlers don't look anything like that. And the shipping at that price is standard for the tumblers... most of the CE's on e-bay have shipping similar to that. I thnk that is one reason they are going so cheap.
FWIW, the last used Loretone I picked up came in a flat rate box. Fit just fine, except that somewhere along the way the motor side of the case had been caved in, forcing me to take the unit apart and re-shape the metal so that the motor sat where it was supposed to. Dunno if that happened in shipping or what, but it was annoying.

Another way to tell CE tumblers is look at the metal covering, in the left in this picture. That square thing covers the motor. I think its a CE only design type thing.

the other way to spot a ce is the base of the case itself- loretones are square at the base, CE's are rounded. Some of the old Loretones are yellow (my two "new" old units are both yellow, I think they were made in the 60's, from their e-bay descriptions.)

There's another deceptive practice out there with the CEs -- at least one seller says although pictured tumbler is red, unit comes in light blue or red. I ran into this right after I received my tumbler and I went looking for a lortone to add to my collection. When questioned about the brand of the tumbler the seller said that he couldn't tell me whether it was a blue tumbler or a red tumbler. I would just have to bid to find out...

Sorry to say that there is nothing deceptive in the discription BUT!!!!!!!- They are selling a CE tumbler with a Thumlers Grit pack (which can be purchased individually right from Thumlers) Nowhere in the discription is Thumlers mentioned as the manufacturer of the Tumbler- See how evil Ebay is? ? It promotes selective advertising- Half truths, and diseption!!!!! ALL LEAGALLY- Good Eye Akansan! Glad You won't fall into the trap!

not sure if this helps any but...i have purchased 2 CE tumblers from harbor freight locally..and the only grit packs they sell are thumler...i have seen the CE's on sale for 19.99 online at harbor freight...and the only brand of grit you can purchase is thumlers..that might explain it.

well..i see harbor freight now has the 2 drum for 29.99..1 drum for 24.99..1 drum was 19.99..but the thumler grit pack isnt listed anymore..i beleive it is possible to buy the CE'S wholesale also...add in high shipping..great money maker...but in any case..do not buy these tumblers..i have two 3lb..and they are nothing but problems..to many to list..i plan on using up every bit of the extended warranty..and then i will go buy us quality ones...go quality first.

" You get what you pay for" sure rings true with CE tumblers.

I have a CE, and the belt broke after first few days of tumbling. Since new belt is on, it's been fine, but I know from what everyone here says, problems still loom ahead.
The reason I felt ad was a little deceptive, was that someone who didn't know any better might see the "Tumlers" grit and say, "Hey, I hear Thumlers is a good brand," and not know that the tumbler iteself is a different brand. Didn't realize that Thumlers grit was standard to sell with CE. Maybe it wasn't really that deceptive after all. Just that the ad doesn't state what brand tumbler really is, so that a person can check up on its reputation.

inflight..that may be harbor freights perception also..a dishonest one if it is..i hope not..but it probably is...the thinking guys are always out to pull one..who knows maybe thumlers pulled there product..i bought CE and thumler grit..ended up with junk....maybe thumler got the picture.

May I ask what your problems were with the CE tumbler? Just to keep my eyes open for my own tumbler.

ya ..inflight..first was the belt breaking..then i changed it..i never adjusted the motor..just slipped the new 1 on..then the motor pulley wore slap in half..just fell apart..took it back got a new one...fired it up..then after a couple of days...then i noticed it was slowing down..belt was wearing badly...rubber dust on table under it..tried to tighten belt...almost impossible on the CE'S..you can hardly get to the screws..had coupon bought 2nd one...about 6 days into tumble..belt breaks..put on new 1..3 days later its wore out..not sure what yours are doing..but ours are junk.

Hint on the CEs - don't replace the belt with the standard CE belt. That's sure trouble.

Wow! My CE has been tumbling for almost 4 weeks without any other problems. Sounds like I'm pushing my luck! Glad I have a Lortone 33B coming any day! I honestly don't know what brand of new belt I put on the CE, since I got it off eBay. The best we can do is inform others here who are trying to decide what brand of tumbler to get.

I guess I would like to see these auctions for CE tumlbers state in them that they are Chicago Electric, rather than fail to mention the brand name in their descriptions.
