That is too freaking cool, basically gravity with a hydraulic damper like a Great Western, but with a vertical drop. Uses up a lot less floor space too. If you can get a shot of the arm and cylinder inside the saw I would be grateful.

Looks like a real monster. How much travel side to side does the carriage have?

Thanks for the tag - that's freakin amazing. I've got a rock or two I'd like to cut on that sucker.

That's a Bad A$$ saw!!! I think Larry may of had that back in my Goddard days, looks familiar.
A few months ago I picked up a Slik 14" drop saw that has a hydraulic dampener, cool addition to a drop saw.
How long did it take to cut that agate?
Tim

Thanks for the look, I've seen a 36" HP, and that drop saw is a spacesaver by comparison, but still plenty big.

Hella cool saw. How's the blade cooling? effective? Bring boulders to it for custom cutting? Cliff

Hydraulics is sweet. Looks like a perfect application. Begs for pressure feedback loop, hydraulics are so smooth and controllable.

Lots of similarities to the new DP drop saws, wonder if they saw this before they built theirs?

Cheers Don at DP is friends with Larry who leads our class. He may very well have seen it. It is home built in the 1960's. So AzRockGeek probably used it back in his Goddard days. The builder made two of them. The hydraulic pump was from a B24 not a Cessna. It was the emergency landing gear assembly. Rockoonz yes I'll get you those pix. coloradocliff it is an oil saw. woodman I'll measure it next Tuesday. Tim 40 minutes or so for a 9" depth. Thanks to all for your interest!

I couldnt agree with you more that the HP is Chinese crap and DP is high quality. I am VERY familiar with the difference between the two companies. Apparently how I worded my response was poor. But I thank you for your effort to enlighten me, correct me or whatever your intent...regardless cool saw in your post Scott. Cheers

Hard to image the internal side of the mechanism. The blade is in the way! Rockoonz
