In general, Utah’s Scenic Byway 12 is arguably one of the most amazing drives I have ever been on. Scenic Byway 12 runs from Hatch to Torrey and includes over 25 significant stops along the way. Travelling from the west, our first spectacle was Red Canyon in the Dixie National Forest.

The area is sculpted out of Claron Limestone and is some of the most vivid red rock that we have seen so far.
The rock formations are visible from the Scenic Byway 12 for a four mile long stretch of roadway. However, to get up close and personal, you have to tie on some hiking boots. Humans for scale only.
Red Canyon is noted for its unusual rock formations that have been described as turrets, hoodoos, pinnacles and spires.

It’s a wonder these two are still hanging on. Gravity will triumph in the end.
