Number one looks like a nice red filament moss agate. It could be from West Texas or Mexico. A lot of nice filament moss comes from San Carlos. There are other possibilities, of course, like the Cady Mountains and Eastern Oregon. Number two could be a West Texas Plume agate cut the wrong way....across the plumes rather than with them. Beautiful stones. I really like what you did with the second one. You took the weakest part of the pattern (the crystalline quartz) and made it a strength. Craig

Craig Thanks Craig, I was thinking West Texas, too. That makes sense. The moss was a real mystery. I could swear it came from a thin vein. It was much more impressive BEFORE I cut it. LOL!

Of all the agates, I think moss can be such a challenge to cab and get it just right. The pattern often does not give you a focal point for design and it can often have imperfections in the hardness that do not jump out at you until you put a polish on it. I think yours looks great. The horizontal (?) view gives the impression of looking into a fanciful cave.

What they said. And I just wanted to echo, love what you did making the quartz river part of the design.

I was going to say what bluesky did , the second looks like a wonderful quartz stream flowing within it. Very nice indeed.

The slab was oriented in such a way to express this pattern. Looks right to me!!

Whoever slabbed it probably wasn't very happy with the cut, but I think it looks great.

Nothing wrong with the stone at all. I wasn't saying it that way to criticize. Saying it was slabbed the "wrong way" is just a term to say it was cut across the pattern rather than with it. I cut rocks the "wrong way" all the time (not always intentionally...LOL) to get different looks and patterns. Sometimes it works out well, like the stone above . Sometimes not . Craig
