I may be wrong, but I believe San Carlos is the name of the Reservation. BTW you examples look very nicely coloured. Thanks for sharing them.

Right on Dave Peridot is one of my favorite gems The island of Zabargad Located in Egypt was source for peridot in those times www.mindat.org/article.php/2053/Peridot+from+St.+John%27s+_+Zabargad+IslandIt seem like your ‘wandering’ on Google Is taking you on your own Coronado Trail expedition through southeastern portion of Arizona Here’s a link to aerial view of Maricopa County dating back to the 1930’s you may enjoy gis.maricopa.gov/MapApp/GIO/AerialHistorical/index.htmlI like to scan for depressed areas (like kimberlite pipes) Which I guess is how peridot gets to the surface of the earth And yes San Carlos is a Indian reservation going back to 1880’s Not a very happy or noble story about how that came about This vile of peridot was purchased from Stevie At the Anthem rock show I’ve never opened the vile to spread out the stones. Afraid I’d spill them or be able to get them back in. But the one I fished out is hard, slippery, smooth, crystalline

It also comes from space - presumably from a destroyed planet (between Mars and Jupiter?) Yes, they sometimes do. Here is a piece with olivine/peridot crystals from one that fell in 1881 (Lyon County, Kansas): Some pallasites have been found with crystals big enough to produce small faceted gems - at sky-high (pun intended) prices. Some of these feature unusual optical phenomena, likely due to impact shock. I loved the Peridot Mesa video, too.

I have a couple of pallasite/olivine cabs cut from a famous meteorite fall. I'll dig them out and post images. This link to facetor Rick Stinson's website shows a number of gem olivines cut from stones contained in a meteorite. It's an interesting story: gemservice.com/Meteorite.htm

Related to "global warming/climate change? Not particularly, though I have strong opinions on that subject. I just got a laugh out of it and thought others might too.

This is a pair of (not very well) cut cabs from the Esquel Pallasite discovered in 1951 in Patagonia. They were cut by the meteorite collector I bought them from and I've never gotten around to touching them up because I'm a little afraid I might damage them. The Esquel is famous as one of the most perfect pallasites ever discovered. It weighed about 1,500 pounds and was brought to the U.S. by meteorite collector Robert Haag. It's the source of most of the pallasite specimens on the market.
