coloradocliff If you sit for 20 minutes at the diamond cup grinder, you can shape your big rock just the way you want it. Next step is to roll it in coarse SiC to ONLY get the diamond cup scratches out of it. Not shaping, just a surface removal. Often only takes 7 days, but adding SiC for 5 of the days. Then I transfer it to the Vibrasonic for 2 days in AO 80, then 18 hours in AO 14,000. Presto, 10-12 day big rock done. Fastest tumble. Then use the same smalls for the next big rock, adding some or subtracting depending on size of next big rock. Eventually the smalls will be done. Shaping the big rock with the diamond cup is the key. Time spent is less than an 8 to 12 week tumble by a long shot. Sure does make sense James, appreciate all the time you help me and so many other people learn things. Have some larger wood and a big (150 pound plus opalized jasper) boulder that I want to wet grind and then buff em up but wont ever get a vibe on em. Also was paying attention to your info on collecting coral in Fla. Will look at experiencing that for sure. You ever get time to come out west to collect? Those Texas ranch hunts might be a great vacation for you and momma. Well back to the salt mine.

Do you tumble rocks Cliff? I see you stocking up on rough, but don't recall reading about what you do with rocks or seeing any kinda rock shop. Probably missed it. Moved from a property I sold to a house on the nursery property. Equipment isn't got a home for now till I get the nursery sold. Have a couple rotaries and a twin vibe. Run some times. Stocking up on material while I have time and its there. More money than brains. When I get more time will rehab a couple buildings on a horse property and set up out there. Have a lot of different hobbies just don't have time for it all right now. The material really helps me get a better feel for what I want to use and collect. Like those colorful jaspers best. Know the rough and then know what youre looking for. Lots of new material from when I had time earlier in life. Never sell rock, gift at times but don't need the money and if youre packing one for a friend its great but I already have too much business in my life to want to always dragging boxes of rock to the po. grin. Face polish better specimans but aren't a high dollar intense collector. Just rocks.. but they are mine..Dont have to feed em , water them, keep them from freezing.
