I suppose someone from Astro Gallery will sign on and start calling me a trash talking jerk or something like that now....
hey dan dont laugh he came here and didit to me after i posted about how they tried to raise the shipping cost twice after the auction closed --and then sent me trash rock because i complained and didnt lay down and let him wipe his feet on me -- the guy thinks hes the rock god of the united states so when he gets a bug up his butt look out it dont matter who it is he starts changin the rules to what ever he feels--- and he does over charge on shipping next time do a package from you to him on the ups site and see the dif cause he also gets his rates cheaper for volume shipping as a biz the last place i worked got a kick back every month for what it cost them in shipping so by the time he adds his handeling fee and over charges the shipping he prob makes another 2 bucks a lb on his rock haha

Hey John...Thanks for the warning! I figured they were making some money off of the shipping but I figure that If I can buy 10#s of quality material for less than $15.00 plus shipping....I'm still only paying around 2.50 or so per lb...I've paid more than that for 1 slab!
I guess it would be a real problem if I was bidding more than $15.00 for 10#s but I stick to that limit.
Sorry to hear about the problems you had with 'em...I hate to hear it. The work I do is somewhat customer service oriented and I pride myself on treating my clients well...drives me nuts when I get poor service....

Bought from Astro last week and am happy w/ it. A little pricey, but that was my choice. I will buy from them again.

I'm sure glad I read some good comments here, I went kinda nuts and bid on some of their rocks. ended Aug. 1 and I still have not heard from them on shipping. but i also ordered from another guy, and same story. man, if you are gonna sell something, they should go out of their way to get it shipped asap. oh well............

You might want to email them, they mis-placed one of my packages recently but after I emailed them they made things right. The stuff that they sent was actually better than what I had won and they did in fact over-night it to me. One thing that probably helps me out the most is that I never "go off" on people. When they told me that my stuff had been mis-placed they gave me a list of other rocks to choose from. I told them that I'd still leave positive feedback. My package arrived the next day.

there are always two sides to the story- They came on here a while back and were very nasty- Since then Everything seems to be running smooth- which is good-

I guess they figured out that a public forum is the worse place to get nasty. That's like yelling to the world "don't order from us, we're @ssholes!!"

Everytime I've won a bid from them, their responses have have been a little more "tardy" than I like. Given the amount of product they get in and ship out it may be a little understandable. I even pay them from Pay Pal immediately after winning the bid. It would be helpful if they had an auto-generated response notifiying you that you were the winner or that they had rcvd payment. At least you'd know they were "alive".
One of the items shipped to me was completely broken in 1/2 upon arrival. They quickly reimbursed me w/out question and I got to keep the product.
I think they have great stuff and will continue to buy from them in the future. Yeah, they're not the cheapest or best communicators, but I think it's worth it.

I have been doing ebay for almost six years, and one lesson I have learned is that NY sellers have the worst attitude on the internet. Must be the water or something. I try my darndest to avoid them. But a couple years ago I bid and got two items from Astro. One was a 13-pound Brazilian carnelian, that was very reasonable and a lovely river polished one at that. They mailed it in a FRB. I was very pleased with both purchases. I was in no hurry and so I don't remember any delivery delay. My impression is that they have good material, honestly described, and appropriately priced. You have to figure the handling fee into your bid. I never got to test their customer service, but it sounds like they have to be handled with kid gloves like any other NY seller with an ingrown chip on his shoulder.

with U. P. S . charges what they are today , I would think that flat rate would help their sales. I have bought from these guys twice, great looking rock and prices weren't bad.
Last $18.00 worth of rock I purchased there cost $23.00 to ship.
Key word there was ,

yea I hear you on the flat rate boxes, but I just got a 10# lot for just under $17 + the shipping; to my door was $31.50 total cost. This works out to $3.15 a #, I can live with that. I don't have many (any) local rocks shops so everything I buy comes UPS/FedEx/USPS and yea I'd take flat rate over UPS Ground but not everyone does them so what can you do. Astorgallery has sent me some nice stuff and some so so stuff, but it was always what I ordered and as advertized. Bill

Didn't mean to sound like I was down on their material, they have the best on the east coast is my opinion, but the shipping leaves me cold. I simply dislike having to deal with Mr. Brown. FedEx does the same pick up and delivery as they do and charge about 1/3 the amount for the same package. We manufacture salt water tackle and ship Iowa to Miami Fla. To ship 50 to 70 lbs. of lead head Jigs zone 5 takes 3 cosigners with UPS. They seem to have added surtaxes to everything from gas to shoepolish for the drivers work boots. Also, a fact not known to many, UPS gives a discount for exclusive carrier privledges. If you only use UPS for ALL your shipping needs, YOU get a very tidy break on YOUR shipping costs. YOU AND I ARE STILL PAYING FULL PRICE . This wasan't something I heard in the local gin mill, it was explained to me in detail by the general mgr. of a large paint co. in New York state. There are litterally hundreds of rock sites on the internet and I spend my late evenings rootin em out. Looking at high bidder past buying history will get you lots of sources that are less expensive. I hesitate to use the word cheap, because in most instances , material worth having simply isn't. I am on your side with the quality material and all the rest but I know that I am getting dinged on the shipping costs. I do not treat my customers like this, and I have spent many hours trying to help them cut their overhead . If I can save a customer $23.00 a week 52 weeks a year , I will have earned this mans trust and respect. On the other hand, if that man would catch me flat footed stealing $5.00 from him every time he placed an order, what would I get ?? I have never been, or ever will be , hungry enough to openly steal from another man, but I am afraid that is what is going on there. If you look for it there are other merchants on E-Bay doing the same thing. My apologys for pettin you against the fur , you probably did'nt know about the kick back with Brown. Peace, Agatemaggot

thats the truth about the kick back the place i worked when i got hurt every couple months they got a nice fat check back from ups cause they only used them and each wearhouse shiped like 2 to 3 hundred packages a day and we had like 5 runnin at the time so thats a nice fat check every couple months he makeas a killin on shipping thats why he wont use usps flat rate boxs he will cut his profit in half so he hits the buyer on the head for shipping and gets all that back extra but it looks like hes sellin stuff for a good price when he realy isent
