I got some dalmation jasper and tree agate. It was as described. Just be aware that all auctions start at $9.99 - no matter what the value of the rock, so check thegemshop or someplace for an idea of value. Also, there is about $4 handling per rock on top of UPS charges.
The do offer the option to pick up, which only helps if NYC is convenient to you, but it is always nice to have the option.

Yeah, they do run high on shipping and handling, but if you're careful on what auctions you buy, it is still worth it. Bought from them several times.

if you sift back through all the old posts, i believe Sands had some difficulty with this NY vendor, but maybe things have improved since then?
always happy to hear of good transactions,

Hey Stefan - The wife picked up the latest issue of Rock and Gem for me and Yes, I did notice that the advert on the back cover...they are definitely serious...
As for the auctions....I guess it's just like any other auction...I just bid the maximum I'm willing to pay and hope for the best....! I think I did pretty well on my last 2 purchases from them...

Don't look at the Gem Shop if you want competitive prices! The Gem Shop is pretty high on all their stuff. If you do order from them, maybe you'll get lucky and get a free calender.....

Well....of course as soon as I post how great they are...I haven't received shipment of my last auction win from them...they state 3-4 days shipping after payment is recieved...Its been 6 business days and no word yet. They even charge handling fees! ...Argh!!! I've sent several e-mails and tried to call but all I get is a busy signal...
I suppose someone from Astro Gallery will sign on and start calling me a trash talking jerk or something like that now....
LOL... Dan

Okay...I just called 'em again and they said that they lost internet connection and couldn't ship for several days.. I asked if they were going to waive the handling fees and they said they would ship it overnight instead...fine with me...and they didn't even call me any names!!!
Imagine that! Dan

Good for you asking for the service you were paying for. I think some vendors want buyers to be docile doormats. Sounds like overnight shipping is a reasonable way to handle the situation. What will you do if the mess up and just ship regular ground?

I suppose my only recourse after that would be to file a dispute with E-Bay and of course...stop purchasing from them. I think they will make it right though...We'll see.
I'll post an update later....

In my experience they are fairly slow at shipping but that's probably due to the high volume of material they handle and waiting for UPS pickups etc. They have always combined wins for me and saved me a bit on shipping. Qualitywise, except for one kind of mediocre lot of green zebra, all the stuff I've won on their auctions has been pretty high quality. I'd buy from them again...mel

Mel...I agree.......I can't complain about the quality at all.. and I'd say that $9.99 is a reasonable starting price for 10# lot auctions...I've had some good deals from them...I believe them when they say they had internet problems...they're phone lines were down too....
