I'm sure this has been asked before, but what are some advantages/disadvantages of a trim saw over a tile saw?
I have been using a 4 and 7 inch tile saw exclusively to do all my cutting, slabing, and shaping then tumbling out imperfections. There is a 6 inch highland park trim saw for sale near me for $125 with a new and extra blade. Would this help me step up my game? On the tile saw I turn the rock at a 45 degree angle and to bevel the edge and end up grinding on the side of the blade and generally abusing the crap out of that blade. I have a feeling that I may not be able to do that on the trim saw..?

You will find that lapidary trim saws are much less noisy and much less messy then tile saws. My shop is in a finished basement so tile saws were never an option for both of those reasons.

Dave I have a few but the one I use most is the lortone lu6X because I like having a 80 grit diamond wheel right on the same machine for preforms and tumble rough cleanup. It has been being used for five years right against a drywalled wall and zero damage. I use water (with additive) on all saws up to 10" then switch to oil. The LU6X is the blue one on the left. Chuck

Right on. That is a sweet setup chuck, very well organized!! I think I may pass on the trim saw for now and save for a slab saw or something better. I'm enjoying the spray of the tile saw outside now that it is summer. Ear plugs are a must:/ good thing I have cool neighbors that like rocks!

I can talk to somebody while running my trim saw-you can't with a tile saw!! More accurate cutting to,more control, with a trim saw....
