OK - hoping someone recognizes this issue and can tell me what it is and maybe how to fix it. I'm getting black marks on slabs and other stuff I cut. They're on the piece away from the vise and only at the first inch or so of the cut. They don't rub off and I haven't yet tried any grit to remove them as I have no doubt they'll polish off easily. I have an LS-10 and everything else is just fine. Cuts nice and smooth. Any thoughts anyone?

when blade alignment is not perfect, local heating occurs. that is burn oil sludge and a little bit of metal form the blade.
cleaning oil can help because there is less friction with clean oil.

Blade may be dished. Try clamping a sharpie in the vise and touch the tip against the front edge of the blade. Slide the vise carriage towards the rear and see if the sharpie stays in contact with the blade or if the mark gets thicker. If the sharpie leaves the blade or the mark gets thicker, the blade is dished. Try this in a few different parts of the blade to see if results are the same.
Might be that turning your blade around will give you some more time using it. I had that dished blade problem and turning the blade around "fixed" it. okay... didn't fix it as it was still dished, but it quit leaving marks on my rocks.

Or overheating due to low oil levels
