Well, I sent my Lortone tumbler (3lb) back with a letter stating all the issues it was having - got a phone call Wednesday saying it could be fixed and I'd be getting it back - no charge - on Tuesday.
Low and behold, on Saturday (yesterday) the mailman brings me not my tumbler back, but a brand spankin' new one. No charge. I'm once again a happy little newbie-tumbler, hoping nothing happens to my now twin tumblers to ruin this happy-dance. :-)

Lortone is usually real good to work with. When you first talk to them you get the feeling they are looking for a way out. Once you send it to them, they step-up & take care of the problem.

I , too, have just talked with Lortone and found them helpful and Interested in correcting anything that is wrong. I guess that's why they keep their reputation.

Yes - even though I check the garage twice daily with trepidation, they're both tumbling happily along. I have glass in one, rocks in the other, and hopefully with two working (knock wood) I'll have a good collection for the art show my sister and I participate in every August.

I , too, have just talked with Lortone and found them helpful and Interested in correcting anything that is wrong. I guess that's why they keep their reputation. OK, I have to make some comments here. Why is it that there are so many "bad" lortone tumblers? seems like there are a lot of posts of problems right out of the box. Yet, everyone praises them because they "fix it after i send it back" I don't get it. Now i'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but seems to me with the number of bad lortone products being reported on here I WON'T BE BUYING A LORTONE TUMBLER ANY TIME SOON. I do use their barrels, which have been fine, but all the motor bearing and belt problems, i don't need to spend money on that. again, Why the loyalty to Lortone when they have so many out of the box problems? think of it this way: would chevy (or any other car maker) still be praised on here as the best if they had as many bad engines at delivery as Lortone has motor/belt/bearing problems? NO WAY. I don't get it, glad i can make my own, and maybe I'll start making real tumblers that work right out of the box to offer for sale. cheers jerry PS: no more ranting from me for a while. PPS: I will be anxiously waiting for the thread titled "Lortone UPGRADES product in response to repeated failures" to appear, LOL PPPS: Really that WAS the last rant, Really....

If you get a shop going, jerryb, then let us know. It seems like a lot of folks in your town have interests that are similar to mine. I know of one air horn collector (I have a couple locomotive horns) and now someone who is into rocks. Interesting. Your community must really be wired!

Wired!!!,
you've gotta be kidding, i would loved to get the h##l out of here forever. far too many small town minds filled with intolerance who are willing to always be going backward in a world of change.
on that cheerful note,

Well, just come on over to Ann Arbor then, jerryb. There is a lot of diversity here, and not much of a small town mentality. Of course, with the local economy based on two major universities, much of that can be expected.

I have a Lortone tumbler, and it has worked "right out of the box"! As far as I am concerned, they make the best one out there.

PPS: I will be anxiously waiting for the thread titled "Lortone UPGRADES product in response to repeated failures" to appear, LOL PPPS: Really that WAS the last rant, Really.... I've had problems with Lortone's 4-stage kit polish (well documented here) but I think that the majority of problems you read about here can be chalked up to the "squeeky wheel" phenomenon. People don't often go out of their way to make note when the products work the way they're supposed to, but when something goes wrong, whoa look out! I have a 33a & a 33b tumbler from Lortone that have given me almost no trouble (when I maintain them properly). Don't assume when you hear complaints about something that the products in general are no good. I'm sure that for every bunk product there are dozens that go un-noted because they dutifully perform their jobs & are taken for granted. At any rate a Lortone still beats a C.E. hands down! Try posting a poll to ask if people are happy with their Lortone products & you will see what i'm talking about. Although Jim never offered to replace my bunk AO polish, I can't say I balme him because I would only be getting another batch of the same stuff. Always look at the bigger picture before making a judgement call or you may end up being stuck with an even worse brand in the end.

I'd second LCARS comments, I WILL NOT buy a grit kit from them ever again, period end of that discussion. On the other hand, I've got three of their tumblers which have been running continuously for 7,9 and 10 months respectively, and apart from some minor tweaking/teething pains (OK so I shouldn't have to deal with those, but knowing how new parts break-in, I don't hold it against them) they have been essentially trouble free.
Maybe there are better brands out there, but without local retailers, Lortone winds up getting my business for tumblers and they are a known entity.
Don't get me started on their grit kit though, that one still burns me up!

well i got my new motor from lortone but they didnt send a switch so what im gonna do is grab a toggle switch and mount it so i can hook the auto off chain to it so it will still work this way i dont have to pay that crazy price for there replacement switchs i can grab one anywear if i ever have to again --- all in all im happy they could have said your warrentee is up sorry
--- only thing that didnt sit right was they sent me back the same motor as the last one and the shaft is too long to use the belt guard its never been on the saw since i bought it cause they sent this motor the first time,, -- i asked for one that will work with the belt guard but they sent the same one
