I need some help here. Someone recently posted about getting rocks from their local fish store. I, of course, had to check mine out. To my amazement, the guy had tons of stuff and keeps it in regularly. I'm going to post the prices and ask if you can tell me if the prices seem fair. The store owner said that he gets the rocks from a wholesaler in Utah. Can you help?
Rainbow Slate - $1.79/lb
Red Jasper - $2.29/lb
Purple Jasper - $1.79/lb
Pagoda Stone - $1.99/lb
River Rock - $1.19/lb
Red Shale - $0.99/lb
Honey Onyx - $1.79/lb
Black Glass - $1.49/lb
Lace Rock - $1.79/lb

How big are these pieces? the price looks okay to me but I'm not sure how tumblable the stuff is - gonna have to check out my pet & fish store now!

They are nice size pieces. Most of them are around 8" and up. None of them are small. They would have to be broken down to tumble. The Purple Jasper is gorgeous and so is the Honey Onyx! So, do the prices seem fair?

That's certainly fair according to the online rock shops. $2/lb. for no-name jaspers is about what you find purchasing by the pound online.

I know enough about jaspers to say that seems reasonable.  You just have to ask yourself if it's worth that much to you...? |

Yep, for honey-onyx and the jaspery stuff, 8" and up were the standards for the pieces I was seeing in the SuperPetz in Altoona, PA. I don't remember the prices, though, but they were/are probably comparable to what AgateChaser encountered.
