One of the pits we frequent has a crushing operation going on , so all kinds of newly exposed rock . Lot of rain also to clean the rocks off . Added a couple more buckets of rock to the stash . First two are a couple reds with a bunch of character , nice piece of banded iron , not sure about this one but I know it polishes up real nice , time to change the color a bit with this 3/4 lb piece of glacial float copper, Again , Thanks for looking

That fourth piece looks a lot like the rhyolite I pick up in the U.P. I love that stuff.

Cool picks. Fun place to vist I bet the gravel place. Do you know the people? How did you get permission? I just ask because they just passed a geavel operation here where I live. East of me would be nice to hound after they begin digging.by the way copper is cool but for some reason I'm like that banded iron.

Nice chunk of float copper Rich.. You using a metal detector to locate it? Actually no , found the float laying on top the ground Saturday . Took detectors down there Sunday for a couple hours and didn't find a thing , other than a lot more rocks for the pile .

More adoptions into the family Rich.. Buckets O babies.. James has got some great info on another thread on prepping the rock before tumbling. You find float copper that big often? Good looking specimen and to think they mined priceless specimens and made wire of it. You have some great things up there but winter isn't one of them. Mosquito still the state bird?

That fourth piece looks a lot like the rhyolite I pick up in the U.P. I love that stuff. We find very similar rocks on Superior beaches but the ones we find here has tighter banding usually . Makes me wonder if it is rhyolite or a form of jasper . It does take a polish as well as any other jasper that I have done . We find some smaller pieces but most of it is in the 10-15 pound size .

We've found several smaller pieces of copper here but they are few and far between . I think the glaciers beat them up pretty good by the time they got here . Take what we can get . Oh yeah , still have the state bird . Deep Woods Off by the case .

Not hard getting permission once they know what you're up to , when you say you're looking for rocks to polish you don't get quite as many funny looks or comments . The pits are mostly private owned so I can butter up the owners with some polished rock things as a thank you . Works every time . Feel quite fortunate because some areas require MSHA certification just to enter the property . Not hard to understand the regulations , too many stupid people doing stupid things ruin it for everyone .

Wonder how many priceless specimans have been made into road gravel? Grin Someone has to SAVE THE ROCKS> RTH Standing in the breach. Have a big gravel pit across the river from my nursery but no agate nor jasper. Granites, some sand stone, soft and plain quartz. No wood either..

I always wonder how many museum grade Lakers get smashed up and put on the roads . I have been told there is no pet wood here or it is under a couple hundred feet of glacial till . I'm such an expert on rock id I wouldn't know if I found any or not .

A bit of float copper, some of your jaspers and agates should get you some tumble wood.

That fourth piece looks a lot like the rhyolite I pick up in the U.P. I love that stuff. IS it a hard rhyolite? Will it take a polish? Another lucky guy living in the land of the lakers.

Rare or common around there? Beautiful day in the Colorado Rockies today.. Woohoo.. But we don't have walleye..

No idea if we have that here so no idea if I have tumbled it . Anything we find the looks good and seems hard gets tossed in . Good learning experience and not locked into buying material . And a nice day here as well , better get off this damn PC and get something done . More rain tonight .
