So, I got this piece of lace agate rough at a garage sale. Got some slabs off it though cracks leave some smaller pieces that are just right for cabbing. Then this slab came off the saw. WOW! It's a scene straight out of a sci-fi movie! I'll let you see what's in it without biasing your imagination with mine. It's another of those slabs that seem to find me, Just too good to cab. Normally I'd just rotary tumble it however there's a crack at the bottom and I know that tab below the dark line will break off in the first few rotations. So I'm looking for suggestions on polishing it without loosing the tab. I've thought of epoxying 1/8" glass to the back. I've also thought of scrapping the crack out a bit deeper and filling with a clear epoxy. Any other thoughts/ideas/suggestions/advise anyone? Thanks. Oh, this pic is dry out of the saw.

Backing it would be beneficial to retaining that tab, but in my view its a pretty slab without that tab so if you lose it you are still good. Making the crack bigger for expoxy doesn't strike me as the desirable option. I'd rather risk a strip of crack filler from HobbyProz (purple stuff) on both sides and then buff out any hump that might remain.

I don't think that losing the tab would be be so bad, either. But, if you really want to keep it... I would set it under a hot bulb for a half hour and put some crazy glue type glue in it- the thin kind.
