Great looking piece of Picasso and the cab was perfect. Like the clouds over the "butte" in the cab.

Nice rough! You sure pulled out a sweet cab!
I heard a while back that picasso jasper was getting hard to get with some saying it was rare. Any truth to that?

Nice rough! You sure pulled out a sweet cab! I heard a while back that picasso jasper was getting hard to get with some saying it was rare. Any truth to that? The original mine has been reclaimed and filled in. Still lots of float to be found but really nice stuff is hard to find. This is the site that the RTH group visited this spring. Dave Penney has 2 of his own picasso stone claims and mines them. He offers a "dark" picasso and a "light" picasso. I bought these 2 pieces of rough out of his "light" picasso pile of rough. This stuff is much harder than the original mine stuff and takes a great polish, even the lighter colors which usually undercut badly in the original mine stuff. He owns the rock shop in Beaver UT. I'd highly recommend his rough. If he decides to stop mining it, commercial availability of the good picasso rough will become very hard to come by.

Utah in May, we went to the reclaimed mine. It has been bulldozed & covered over, but that didn't stop any of us from getting great material. I showed a photo on one of the related threads of a 15lb or so chunk I found right next to where orrum was sitting. I think you need to have orrum along as a good luck charm, though. Lynn

I thought you had a nursery to run. I do have a show July 7-9 in Durango. It's put on by the local rock club. It'll be my first time. Just hop on that Million Dollar Highway & come on down! Lynn

That is truly some wonderful stone. I could probably never make up my mind on what part of the slab I wanted to work...I see dozens of options in the same one inch. You did a great job with your volcano cab!

Hey Lynn got s premier piece of Picasso. Tony and I found a 50 pound hunk that is awesome!!! Tony got one bigger than he could carry, he rolled it to the truck. It was tough collecting. The pit was filled back with broken hunks from baseball size to park bench size. It was mostly no patterns so you had to prowl thru and chip it to see what was there. Some at one side had a green pattern added!!!
