A little groove wrap piece I made for a gift. I helped a family with their parents estate and the wife of the son I was working with just loved the copper ore Chrysocolla, Malachite, cuprite, etc stuff we found so I made her this. Thick slab domed on both sides and grooved. Front view: Rear view. The plan was to make it reversible and it kind of still is but the back has a tiny but noticable chip left side towards the top. Front view indoors:

Beautiful cab and I love the groove wrap. Perfectly understated to allow the stone to shine!

Now that ahappen'n, Lee! double domed wrap groove ddwg did you groove it before you cabbed it? Thanks, Ed, everyone else too. When I groove I shape the slab and take the edges to 600 before I cut the groove so it only needs to be polished. I cut the groove with a jewelry bit on a glass grinder. once that's done it acts as a guide for doming. The double dome was challenging since I normally use dops for cabs, had to go dopless with this one.

Great cab and wrap. It sure puts the stone center stage.

Just lovely. Question. Chrysocolla is somewhat brittle, was it stabilized first? Do you think it will hold up well?

Just lovely. Question. Chrysocolla is somewhat brittle, was it stabilized first? Do you think it will hold up well? This one was pretty silicified, and a thick slab. I didn't stabilize, as the polish looks unnatural to me when I do. I have another to set in silver for her that I backed in basanite.
