I just finished my second stone bowl today. captbob and grizman both asked me how loud the process was when I posted pictures of my first bowl. I told them I'd make a video, so I did. I paid a little more attention to how long everything takes this time. Unfortunately, the loud stuff takes a couple hours at least. I was working on the bottom of the bowl when I noticed my neighbor and his girlfriend out on their deck, which is close to where I was working. I immediately stopped because I knew it would bother them. My wife, on the other hand, sat on our deck while I was working and read a book. She was occasionally taking video, so she must have thought it was easier to just stay outside. I don't think she enjoyed it though. Cutting with the dry angle grinder doesn't take too long, but grinding with the cup grinder on the wet grinder takes a while. The other part that takes a long time is grinding with a soft 30 grit pad. The soft pads don't make the ringing sound that the hard cup wheel makes. Anyhow, here's the video:

Awesome Rob, liked you using the laser level to mark your lines. You may have to start taking orders. How many can you crank out in a day?

Very nice . Could you make me a cereal bowl out of jaspelite , I have the rock . I could, but I won't. You'd break your kitchen counter with a rock that heavy.

Great stuff, Rob. Very interesting. I'm not only jealous as to how clean your shop looks, but the woodlands you have access to. Very, very nice.

I was working in the woods right behind my house so that I didn't ruin the lawn. I bought a fifty foot 12 gauge extension cord just to save the lawn. Now I need a good rain to wash off the woods!

Well that was 8:30 of awesome! Thank you for making the video explaining everything along the way. Kudos to your wife for tolerating such noise to shoot the video.
Wonder if they make a domed cup/pad which would get down in the bowl shape easier.
Mosquitoes up there?
How about that World's Best Tumbler trophy there on your bench. Surprised you haven't made it into a hood ornament on your vehicle, let the world know! Guess that it is kinda big to make a necklace out of.

They do make a domed cup wheel and pads, but they were a lot more expensive than what I'm currently using. Maybe some day I'll make the investment, We have a ton of mosquitoes at our house. It doesn't help that there's a swamp at the back o my my lot that has standing water most of the year. Some days are worse than others and they weren't too bad when I was working, if they are bad, Off does a pretty good job of keeping them away. We can't sit on our deck. In the evening at all without being eaten alive though.

Looks great. Did you have something in mind for it before you started?

Looks great. Did you have something in mind for it before you started? Do you mean did I have a use for the bowl? Nope, I just thought it would be fun to make. I have always wanted to make a bird bath out of a boulder. That would actually be a much easier project because it would be so much larger. I just have to find the right boulder and figure out how to move it to the back yard. I think my next project is going to be another large polished rock. I have a pretty big fossil to do and a large chunk of Kona dolomite too.

I can see that as part of a fountain if you do the birdbath. Was fun to watch you do it!

Nice work I don't think I could sell them for enough to make it worth my time. Eventually, I'll have to sell some just to get rid of them. As it is, my wife doesn't want them in our house. Maybe if I find a really pretty rock whe'll change her mind, I thought a rock bowl filled with tumbles would look nice. This bowl is really big and heavy though. My father in law said they would make nice non tipping dog food bowls. We don't have a dog though.

Wow! What a nice video of your bowl making. The amount of mess and the noise factor will probably prevent me from ever taking on the challenge in AZ. Our home location wouldn't let it happen, but....someday at our son's cattle ranch, that could be a perfect spot with no clean-up required. Thanks for sharing not just for captbob and me, but all the other folks out there!
