This is very early planning just to gauge people's interest. For some time now I have thought about leading a group to collect material at a couple of my favorite locations in the Dead Camel Mountains. Chime in if you think you would come - and what weekend would be best (and worst) between the last weekend in September through 2nd week of November. I know everyone has a lot going on in October but that is truly the right month for a number of reasons. If it slips into winter the mud flats we drive across may become impassable. Early November is probably safe. Saturday: Location#1 - colorful red jasper with agate inclusions galore Location#2 - red dendritic inclusions in rhyolite Sunday: Trip to Wonderstone Mountain? Accommodations: We would stay at a motel in Fallon and travel about an hour to the site. You could also stay at a Fallon RV park or dry camp near the sites. Vehicle: 4-wheel drive is recommended but decent ground-clearance and good AT tires are a must. Location #1 requires driving on sharp rocks. Never lost a tire but always thought about it. Tagging these people because we have discussed going to this area at some time in the past. Others have asked me about it but I've forgotten who. orrum, @shotgunner, drocknut, nowyo, catmandeweI will post some examples of the material we seek in a little while as time permits.

According to this thread I gave it to you that time when we stopped by after picking up the saw from our mutual friend. Always wondered how that sucker looked cut - now I know why I never found out Edit to add: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/post/809943/thread

I'd be up for a trip provided my mom is still doing well and doesn't need me to stay around here. I'm open to date so just keep me in the loop please Tommy.

I really want to go, but I also have a trip to Texas scheduled in late October or early November. I'll watch the thread and see how the time frame works out. That's some nice material you've got there!!!

Tommy you you have any you would part with now, or will part with after the trip? What I've got left uncut is pretty picked over - I actually spread most all of it out around the perimeter of my back yard along the sound wall. When it cools off I'll try to see if I can spot a piece or two that still have some good cutting left to do on them.

Lord only knows I have enough rocks without adding more! IIf you or anyone even has a killer slab or two hoarded away, that would be all I really need. I would be happy to buy or set a cab in sterling for the material.

I've only recently heard of Dead Camel jasper. Is this a recent discovery? I like what I'm seeing in your photos. I'd love to go, but don't want to influence the date because it probably won't happen. Lynn

Oh hells yeah, Tommy! By then we'll be done with this moving nonsense! Definitely ready to get out and mess with rocks. We're a definite most likely if nothing else blows up in the meantime. Can't believe it's been that long since I logged on. Thanks for thinking of us. Russ
