Still turning out walking sticks and canes and this one is another that does not have a box to think outside of. At a loss for words so here are the photos. Jim sides open with brass sheet in top to prevent a forest fire. Moss agate in the back. Carnelian agate in front with no lantern then with lantern. Could only find too big and too small hour glasses so I made one to fit. Purple heart wood, hand cut threads and blue sand screened through a very fine screen. Third photo is from when I was installing it and in the last photo it is flippable. The seven little bottles were going to be for scented lamp oils but I am worried the oil will soak through the cork. Maybe I will fill them with magic spices that will bring the dead back to life. People that have picked it up have made the comment "much lighter than it looks" so 3 lbs, 2 oz doesn't appear to be too heavy. Comments or suggestions are welcome, this is my first skull. Thanks for looking. Jim

Hmmm, where do you hold it while walking? Fire and hands don't really go together. Maybe use wee battery operated candles, and put a blurry wall around it to camouflage it.

PS. That purple wood is lovely. You could make rings of it as you do with jade!

Sorry Pat, I forgot all about this thread and your question. The hand hold is the thinner part that starts just under the lantern. Plus, I am not sure this can actually be called a walking stick. It is more of a "I feel like meeting some new people today" stick. I have several of those and they are a lot of fun because no matter where I go people are going to just walk up and start talking to me about the stick. First a statement "that is a beautiful stick" then two questions, "did you make that? and what kind of wood is it?" I have drawn a crowd twice and that will have me smiling so hard it is difficult to talk. I put quite a bit of effort into making other people smile but some days I need to get pumped up and have a smile on MY face. A fun way to do that is showing off as long as you do not cross over the line into "I am an ass" land. Jim

Very unique! would never have thought of candle/light/rocks in a walking stick!
Now maybe stamp or pierce some designs on copper to go on the hand hold, or wrap decoratively in leather? looking forward to seeing it finished!

You could also stamp your name or logo on it. It is a unique and wonderful piece! : )

A work of art! I can see why you would draw a crowd. I would certainly come up and talk to someone with that. Amazing work. Has a shamonistic feel to it (if that is even a word).

What a fun way to show off your skills and ability to think (and work) outside of the box. I really like it! Thanks for sharing your "friendship stick".

Wow. Just WOW. That is definately WAY outside the box. An awesome piece. The tourists here would buy those up like candy.
