Joseph at rocktumblingsupplies.com/ is the most reasonable source I have found so far for carborundum. He puts together an annual co-op grit order in May for delivery in late June or early July. This summer I got 10# each of 60/90 and 220 for $45 delivered. If anyone knows of a better deal, I'd be glad to hear of it. And the price is the same for any quantity from 5# up except for the fixed shipping cost in a USPS FRB. Spacegold

search out miles supply they have the best deal on grit if you want a large bucket. 50 lbs of 60/90 ran me $56 shipped. they have a good price on 120/220 as well.

Miles looks good alright, until you do the arithmatic. The same order from them would have cost me $78.43, based on the same USPS shipping rate. It is not clear whether or not their quoted price includes UPS shipping charge. But even if it does, that only knocks about fifteen bucks off the total. Joe still comes out better.
If shipping is included in their price, then their price on 60/90 is only a little higher than Joe, after adding their handling fee. But they are not even close on 220.
On large quantities, where UPS ground is available, I think you come out a little ahead with Miles. But 50# of 60/90 is about an eight year supply for me, and UPS ground is not available to me. I think I might contact them, though, and see if they will bag and Flat Rate a 25 pound order of 60/90. That might beat Joe by a little.
I can still buy my 220 from Joe. The only drawback with Joe is that you only get one shot a year, and that is in May.

miles is an industrial source which is why the charge a MUCH higher price if you want a smapper package. the 120/220 is $4.50/lb in 10 pound packages.
like i said its a great deal if you need a lot. i bought the 50 lb 60/90 and it sure won;t last me 8 years. stick with your guy hsi price is good for the quantities that you need.

I'm sure you are right, Jerry. Joe was only 3c a pound cheaper than Miles's 50# price for 220 this year (for ANY quantity), with no handling fee. As I said, Joe is a very reasonable source, particularly for the many of us who do not consume industrial quantities of grit. But I am glad to know about Miles, just in case Joe decides not to do the co-op some year.
I am also looking for a trial quantity, say 5 pounds, of 40/70 or some such to see how it works in the main barrel. Will contact Miles about that, too.

Hi Spacegold I got 10 lbs. off Joe this spring good grit and price for that quantity. Was worried about running out by the time my shipment arrived i was down to my last spoonful. I will get more from him for sure. I guess 20 lbs fits in a flat rater box doesn't it.George

Yes, 20# goes in one FRB. That was what I got for 45 bucks. 10# of each. Works for me.

Space, I get all my grit from Arrowhead Lapidary, www.arrowheadlapidarysupply.com for $2.50 per lb, or if you buy 5 lbs it is 2.25, I pay $11.25 for 5lbs of either 60/90 or 120/220. I would go to miles but I don't buy in large quanites either. I think my shipping runs less than $10, haven't bought for awhile. I know this is higher, but if you need more before next year this is another source. Happy tumbling. Terry

Yea I use Miles for my 60/90- 50 Lbs should last me about 2 years- I use ROck Shed for all my other sizes- mainly because I always order some rock with it!
