These are some more of my insomnia cabs from July.
Indian Blanket - terrible cab. I have a hell of a time with this material. The various MOHS this has, coupled with very heavy hands on the wheels equals very wonky cabs..but this has a great scene.
Psilomelane - two little cabs from a piece that fell apart on the 220 wheel. These buggers are hard (for me) to photograph.
Cab 1 - I will need to revisit this one to see if I can polish out the smudge looking area..
Cab 2 - nice pattern in this one. I wish it were larger =\
Mojave Purple Turqoiuse in Bronze
Cab 1 - It may be artificial stone but it is still pretty
Crayola Jasper..I think..- this was sent to me as Crayola Jasper but I am not positive on the ID. Nice mix of colors though
"idontknowit 1" - really nice soft greys and if I had been thinking, I would have cut it symmetrically. It would have made a more sophisticated piece.
Dinosaur Bone - Still my all time favorite material to cab. I get a kick out of working with it and have a tendency to day dream about what dinosaur it came from, how it died, etc..I am sure every bone I have ever cut came from a ferocious, carnivorous, hunting brute of a raptor. (don't go ruining my dream!)
Bone 1 - not the bestquality but I do like the blue/grey cells
Bone 2 - same material as above but with a few more cells
Bone 3 - This has a lot more color than shows in the photo. It took an odd polish and is a little milky. I think it may have been stabilzed at some point with a low quality epoxy.
Bone 4 - classic red and black bone. I think the healed fracture gives it character.
Fossil Coral - Fossils, bone, and petrified wood are always fun to cut!
Cab 1
Petrified Wood
Opalised Wood
Cab 1 - this is an end cut with a natural edge. I keep thinking it looks like a country but can't for the life of me figure out which one..
Texas Shrinkwood
Cab 1
Kaleidoscope Jasper from the Rhodes mine - I have been mostly unimpressed with the quality of the material from the Rhodes mine. From my experience; the stone tends to be severly fractured and very brittle. Though the colors can be truly amazing.
Cab 1 - not one of the more vivid examples of Kaleidoscope Jasper but there is a lot of movement in the pattern.
Azurite - not sure where it is from. I think it is South American. Both cabs look significantly nicer in person. The color and polish washed out a bit in the photographs.
Cab 1
Cab 2
Cab 3 - this is from some material from the Morenci Mine
Leopard Skin Jasper - not the greatest example of Leopard Skin jasper, not a very well cut cab lol - this will go into my give-away box.
Yellow Feather Jasper - this is another material that I really enjoy cabbing. This isn't the best example of it, but; a lot I have worked with in the past has patterns that look like old Chinese paintings, to me..but my lifestyle in the 80's may have altered my perception a tad..
Cab 1
Mahogony Obsidian
Cab 1 - this stuff cuts like glass (yes, I know lol)
Backlit
Rhodonite, I think..this is from some material I got from beefjello in a trade (thanks again Brian!)
Opalised Flourite, Tiffany Stone - this one kept fracturing and I kept adjusting the shape to try and accommodate it. I ended up with an odd shaped cab lol
Cab 1
Quartz with Tourmaline Inclusions
Cab 1 - this is another material I could cab all day. Always enjoy working with it.
Peruvian Gem Silica - This material was gifted from a friend. It looks MUCH nicer in person than the photos.
Gem Silica 1
Gem Silica 2
"idontknowit 2" - This is one that I got in trade from beefjello . I don't know what it is but I want more Very fun to work with and has great patterns! Thank you Brian!
"Idontknowit 3" - any help with an ID is very much appreciated. I don't know where I got it and I don't know what it is..but I would like to find more of it.
Rhodochrosite
Cab 1 - I love the color and working around all the vugs and druse pockets with this stone.
Crimson Cuprite
Cab 1 - I do enjoy this material. It cuts and cabs super easy and can have a lot of purples, blues, and greens in with the red.
Pietersite
Cab 1 - this has a lot of life in it. It was an end cut that I almost tossed. It ended up at 3mm on the button in the middle.
Quartz with Rutiles
Cab 1 - this is a thick cab at 14mm. Both sides are shallow domed and it is fully polished on all surfaces. It is really nice in person.
Backlit
Bruneau Jasper - repost of a now scratchless double two-side domed Bruneau.
Side 1
Side 2
Biggs Jasper
Cab 1 - I took the orientation of this one vertical, rather than having the pattern horizontal which I normally would have done. I think it works?
Again, if anyone actually makes it through all the photos, thank you for looking, and; thank you for any help with ID's!
