I'm just starting out and have no existing supplies. I have a new Lortone 33b tumbler on order.
Just wondering what your thoughts were on this grit kit offered by arrowheadlapidarysupply.com.
Grit Kit #8
Kit consists of: 5 pounds of 60/90 ungraded silicon carbide grit. 5 pounds of 120/200 ungraded silicon carbide grit. 5 pounds of 600 graded silicon carbide grit. 1 pound of cerium oxide polish. 5 pounds of plastic pellets. This kit will polish 35 to 40 pounds of rocks. Item No. 11007
PRICE : $ 55.00
Other suggestions? Thanks!

I checked the Rockshed for the same materials, the rockshed price was $61, so Arrowhead's price looks good. I have used both and both are good vendors.

I think it's too big an order, Gw. Five pounds of 120/220 or 600 or pellets is an awful lot. You're talkin' several years supply. 60/90 is what you need the most of because you might recharge a load three or four or five plus times before the rocks are shaped up nice. Then it's only once in 120/220 and once in 600. Five pounds of 60/90 will get used up. Take a look at therockshed.com/grit.htmlMaybe a grit pack w/pellets - a pound of everything - $16.50 and a couple of extra pounds of 60/90. (Don't know what's in Arrowhead 1-7) Rich

Well I should be well stocked. There will be 3 or 4 of us tumbling rock. I got such a good deal from Miles Supply and the Rock Shed that I ended up ordering 25lb bags of all the supplies accept the 5lb polish. I have plenty of outside storage space at the house so no problems with the extra quantities. Thanks all for the feedback.
