Picked this up the other day at Lowe's. 10 ft. 1/2" ID hose. Perfect for using on my tumblers. They had red hose which was $18 and the green was on clearance for $4.99. Guess which I bought? Maybe if someone needs some they will have it at the Lowe's near you. Good luck!! Thanks---Steve

I have used that Hose to Recover some shafts. But There is a Lot of leeway in there 1/2". If your shaft is .500-.502 they are Loose. But some are .510 They will fit better. If you bring the shaft to the store and try different one's You will get a Better fit

If you bring the shaft to the store and try different one's You will get a Better fit I wish I had a little more leeway. I cut the hose to length and pounded the crap out of my shaft (heard it when I said it) and couldn't get the hose on all the way. I finally cut it off and cut another piece and put it in boiling water for a couple of minutes to soften it up. It finally slid on. It wasn't easy, and I have blisters on both hands to prove it. Not from the heat of the hose, but from the repetitive motion of trying to pound the hose on the shaft.

Why do you cover the shafts? ETA Lowe's is a fantastic #2. It provides grip for the barrels. My old shaft covering had worn out completely. Also, I went to my local metal shop (Alro Steel in Jackson, MI.) and they cut 2 1/2" shafts (cold rolled) to length for me and the total cost was $4.51. I couldn't complain about that!!

I lube the rods with a light coat of vegetable oil, seems to slip better than when water-wet from a hot water soak.

I put 2" wide Gorilla Tape on the shafts of those type of tumblers but on my big one that has 3/4" shafts I put couple of wraps on the barrels themselves. Those barrels don't like metal to metal so the tape takes care of that. I have hade the tape last over a year running 24/7. Cheap and effective............................MrP

I have used electrical tape, with little success. Maybe I should have asked on here before I put myself through the trouble of redoing these... Thanks---Steve

The shafts on my tumbler has n coverings. Spins the barrels well. jamesp uses bare steel also. I learned it from him.

I don't know how price compares but you can buy "Tygon" tubing by the foot at Home Depot and I assume Lowes. It is a clear to milky white tubing with braided reinforcement. Buy as many feet as you need.
