Hi everyone, I want to thank you all for the response with my situation regarding the tiger eye. With your help I now will be able to finish her birthday gift. The offers for the tiger eye has been super and am looking forward to receiving the stone. As soon as I get the items completed I will let everyone know. Since I have never tried to put a photo on this board (I do have a digital camera) I will have to go back thru the forum and try and figure out how to post them. Again I want to thank all for the response and offers for tiger eye. Sincerely, Gary

JR, I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother, my heart goes out to you. I hope you can find some peace in the days ahead.
Geez you guys, he not only apologized once but twice, and from what I read, he didn't cut anybody down.

Hi everyone, Just a update on this matter with the tiger eye. When I posted this all I was trying to do was let anyone who was interested about what had happened with this vender. Anyway from all the response's I have received tiger eye from several people from this board. I now have enough to finish my project with some left over. I just want to THANK all who responded and especially thank those who sent tiger eye. It gave me such a warm feeling hearing from all.
I was talking to sandman regarding a slab saw. He gave much needed advice. I have four daughters that are married and the oldest one called last week and asked what I wanted for Christmas. I told her just something to do with rocks. She knows that I have always wanted a slab saw. After talking to her for a while we hung up. A day later she called again and told me that her and my other three daughters would pay for a slab saw...just let her know what type and where to purchase one. In my heart I know that they would do it, however, I do not want to put that burden on them as they all have familys and should spend their money on them. Also, with being in a wheel chair it would be kind of hard to make the trip out to the garage several times a day to make sure the saw was running OK.
Now I have a "PROPOSITION" for anyone who has a saw. I have two pieces of Ocean Jasper. The first one weight 22 pounds and is 9" long, 8" wide and 8" tall, the second one weighs 15 pounds and is 9" long, 6" wide and 7" tall. I would like to pay anyone who has the capicity to slab these pieces for me. In return I would share some of the slabs with them. I also have roughly 20 pounds of Wildhorse Jasper that I would be willing to kick in for part payment of slabbing the OJ. I of course would pay for shipping for the return of the OJ. It would be a lot more economical to pay someone to do this rather than purchase a slab saw that I probably would only use this one time. If interested please PM me.
Thanks again for all the tiger eye. Sincerely, Gary

gary before somebody cuts up those oj pieces get us some pics! somebody is going to need a big saw for those babies!
now gary from a daughter's standpoint - my sister and i struggle every holiday with what to get our dad and usually we fall short. oh he does wear those new house shoes or make a couple of clicks on that new flashlight but after all he's given us nothing would give us more joy than to really give him something that he wanted and wouldn't get for himself. only once ever have we succeeded with a boise radio. oh yeah we got the evil eye on that one because mom said he'd never cut it off and she didn't want to listen to music all day. if he is awake that radio is on lol. let those girls get you that saw gary! it will make their christmas to do this for you. get it set-up like randy and sands with the drain valve and let those girls help you with that. it would mean the world to them! it's a father/daughter thing and i know every daughter in here understands what i'm saying. you'll be giving them a gift to let them do this for you.
yes you would have to be out there with it when it is cutting but you could cut 1 slice and be done for the day. go on gary - tell them which saw you want!

This started out as a thread about riverbendlapidary. I just wanted to mention that he has some gorgeous slabs listed on ebay right now. Maybe a little pricey, maybe not. But definitely worth looking at by serious cabbers.

Kim, I understand what you are saying, however, my girls do not live anywhere close to me. Two of them live in Texas, one in Georgia, and the other in Iowa. Due to where they all live I do not get to seem them as much as I would like. One Christmas about five years ago I had all of them come to Kentucky. I live in a very small house since there is only my wife and me now. Anyway, here they all come with their husbands and of course my 8 grand children. We were really glad to be able to spend the time with them. The only problem was where do you put all of them to sleep? Also, we had to put breakable items up high to keep little fingers from touching. All in all it was great to have them visit for xmas. This does not happen very often due to their jobs. I am still debating on letting them buy the saw...I was looking at a Covington 16". The only thing that still crosses my mind is would I get the use out of it to warrant such a high dollar item? Here in Kentucky we do not have access to rock that would keep the saw running. I am keeping an open mind on it. Sounds like your dad has a lot to be thankful for. From what I have heard those Boise radios are really nice...great sound. I know my girls Kimberly, Kelly, Kristi & Karri (I know..why all names start with K?) would like to buy this saw and splitting the cost between four would not be that much. You really have me thinking.....Thanks. I will let you know what I decide. Gary

Gary, you don't have to worry about having rock to cut. There are quite probably people on this board who would ship you rock and pay the shipping both ways, plus pay you by the cut and give you the pick of the slabs just to have it cut. If there was not enough of that to keep you busy, ebay has tons of reasonably priced rough.

I just wanted to put my 2 cents in on the christmas thing. This is the first year Joi and I have gotten real ideas for her parents. They are normally very hard to buy for. So this year we are getting them what we know they want. It makes us feel so much better knowing we are getting them things they will use. Her dad wants a rock tumbler of all things.

When I asked riverbendlapidary why he charges ebay buyers $9.45 shipping for a priority flat rate box, I got this reply:
"because i put shipping confirmation on these agate lots."
Most of us know that delivery confirmation is 45 or 50 cents and is for the shipper's benefit.

As I read it, he uses "signature confirmation", which does cost $1.35.
In fact, there is "delivery confirmation" which is 45cents , or free if the label is made online. But, the listing I read said signature.
I don't know about this. I see how it is more controled, but I work al day and like to come home to find my boxes on the porch. I would hate to have a slip and need to go to the post office on my lunch hour the next day. Still, not everyone lives in a safe friendly little city like I do.
On the other hand, it seems that for "claims" purporse, delivery confirmation would be good enough. I mean, it is not like they check ID or anything when someone signs fo r the package. I think PayPal would be just as happy with a delivery confirmation in a dispute process.

That is for the shipper's benefit, and is about 45c. The rest must be a little something for your sweetie. I like your rocks, but I think I'll pass on the auction. People who overcharge for shipping or require the buyer to pay delivery confirmation against his wishes are not on my approved seller list. There are lots of sellers on ebay who just charge actual postage and no b.s. All the delivery confirmation you need is a postal receipt with date and buyer's zip code on it to prove you sent the package. From then on it is the buyer and the Post Office.
My reply to Spacegold:
Hi,
You are mistaken. The delivery confirmation is free. The SIGNATURE confirmation costs $1.35. $8.10 + $1.35 = $9.45.
I am not overcharging at all. As stated in my auctions, I only charge the actual amount of shipping.
Sincerely,
J.R. Able

J.R.... you should have never been put in a position to have to defend yourself on here, you haven't done anything wrong. This old thread should be put to rest! lol .....one thing, I do have to agree with Daniel. Nothing worse than getting home and having the yellow "pick up" ticket instead of your package, especially for us guys that work full time, with wifes that work full time as well. Just a thought. I was just checking out your latest auctions, great stuff!

Thanks! I agree having to sign for stuff can be a pain. 99% of the people I deal with are great - honest and no problems, but that other 1% can be a pain and the Signature Confirmation puts it all to rest.

if i see something i really want, i don't even balk at a handling fee if it is reasonable. selling on ebay is hard enough with all the fees and paypal fees, taking all the pictures, listing time, packing time, shipping materials, gas to the post office....i don't see anything wrong with the sig confirmation. i have to go pick mine up even without it as they don't want to pick up my packages. they say they are too heavy.
