"they don't want to pick up my packages. they say they are too heavy."
I left my mail man a bottle of scotch at Christmas with a note that there won't be many more heavy flat rate boxs for a few months. Since they are not allowed to accept that kind of thing I am sure he threw it away his first chance.
Trying to stay on topic: I was burned once with inflated and hidden charges, I watch closely now, but I have also had people who ended up paying three times the shipping that was advertised and paid for, I sent the difference when I found what it had cost by the label on the box. Since I am home all the time a sig conformation does not bother me, but before this I worked 50 miles away and the post office was closed by the time I got home which meant Saturday package pick up if they did not leave it. I would say to leave instructions about that in the space provided (if using paypal).
Some times a misunderstanding is just that.

It used to be you could sign the slip and leave it in the mailbox and get the package the next day, but that does not seem to be the way it works any more.
BTW, I am not opposed to small handling fees. Say under $1 per package. I appreciate folks who use actual shipping or just round up, or add 75cents or something. It is the ones that want abou $-2 or $3 and then ass 75cents for each item - even if the item is a little cab or bead. ANyway, just to be clear, I don't insist on actual shipping.

If a seller wants the warm feeling of any kind of confirmation, it is for his benefit and he should pay for it. Confirmation is not one whit better than a postal receipt with the buyer's zip code imprinted on it by the post office. If confirmation is a PayPal requirement, then it should only apply to Paypal transactions.
And Randy, until Mark kicks me off this board, I will feel free to challenge any ebay seller on any lapidary issue I think might be of interest to others here. If he can successfully explain his position, no harm is done. If he can't, then we all know what we are dealing with. Even you might benefit.

Well I generally speak my mind here, so I'll give my opinion.
Spacegold, you are just a bit off base and should try to be less cantankerous. There is a difference between having the leeway or privilege to post what you want here and having the wisdom to know what you should post. Your 1st challenge to J.R. was incredibly picayune. The difference between $1.35 and $0.45 is only 90 cents. I hate handling and even I don't know anybody who objects to less than a buck added to a flat-rate box! And you were wrong to boot. He does charge actual cost with no handling. ... and phrases like "for your sweetie", or "with no b.s." just seem intended to insult.
Instead of offering an apology for being hasty and inaccurate, you now try to change the argument to whether or not some type of confirmation is really necessary, or whether a seller has the right to specify things like which shipper, confirmation, insurance ... etc. You also seem to be snapping at Randy. You are not looking good here.
Yes, JR (or any seller) could make signature confirmation optional, and they could easily use the free delivery confirmation with no risk that I can see for the seller. Or yes, JR could offer to waive the requirement for RTH members who ask. (it would be a small thanks for the free exposure his auctions get on this board.) -- But you would benefit from less haste, more accuracy, better manners, and less belligerence - and by your logic I should "feel free" to say so.

Thank you for your opinion Daniel. But I wish you had shown the decency to PM me with your diatribe. If I thought an apology was in order you would have seen it long ago. It isn't and demanding it makes you look a bit foolish. Misrepresenting my intentions is rather bad form, as well. My very first communication dealt with the appropriateness of confirmation. Normally I would prefer to PM people like you, but since you seem to want to publicly keel haul me, I reply to you here. I regret that you find my posting cantankerous, but I certainly prefer that to your pretentious, patronizing condescention.

SG, I got no problem with your replying here. Seems only fair since, as you said, I didn't send a PM.
You know I thought about a PM after your 1st message when I saw you were mistaking "signature" for "delivery", and I also reflected that $0.90 might be the wrong battle to fight in the war against excessive S&H. But after your subsequent decline into defensive nonsense and brash statements, well I as annoyed, and decided to post my opinion.
I'll have to study the definitions of "condescention (sic)" and "patronizing" to see if I can give any credence to your comments. Likely not. I do think that when I try to be civil but firm with someone who is out of bounds, I often come off a bit formal, which you may be misperceiving as condescension.
Just to be clear. It was not condescension, upon reflection I can see it was ever-increasing contempt.
