Hi guys - this probably won't be of any interest to 99% of you but I was wondering where other UK-based members get their rough rock from. I use a couple of websites: Manchester Minerals and Mineral Craft North but I was wondering if there were any others that were worth trying.

Hi, Funny you should ask this, i was only talking to Jack about this today. He pointed me towards www.burhouse.com/press_cuttings.htmI have not used any of these as i am just researching before i take the plunge and get all my equipment sorted. Hopefully i will make my decision and get a covington 754 & 1510TS but i am just in the "convincing myself" mode atm. Jeff P

Hi erbojones, If you are engaged in craft 's as well as tumbling (for a outlet) Burhouses only want what any builders merchant or any other merchant wants that is a utility bill and a bit of security a business card ect + 24 hours notice of a visit( Which is well worth it !!) when we were there some people had come from Scotland and another couple from South Wales
You can spend a full day in there and it goes like 5 Mins !! and also spend a fortune !!! as the prices are extreemly reasonable.
Its just off the M62 so easy to get to
But the selection of rock and assistance is outstanding.
I know Cornwall is a long way away (UK standard's) our USA friends would go that distance and come back before dinner !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife came from Barnstaple and I used to get clock movments from Bude.
There is a dealer in Cornwall that is quite helpfull that I have bought off Paul Jeffery 16 Laity Road, Troon, Camborne, Cornwall, TR14 9EL Tel: 01209 614 511 (+44 1209 614 511) Telephone orders are welcome paul@khrisjan.fsnet.co.uk
Im sure he would help
But dont forget The rock Shed in USA The £ is 1.90 to the $ so its a good time to buy in US. and customs dont mind small quanities of "Gelogical samples" comming into UK

Nice one Jack!! I'll check out your suggestions.
How much in weight can you bring in before HM Customs become interested - and what are the shipping prices like?

Hi erbojones, I paid £20-00 Vat , that order included a Loretone 5kg barrel and filled with 5 kgs rock+ a dimond saw blade,
some times if there is just rock they dont bother I think it was the dimond saw and the new barrel that put the price up, While on the other hand my last saw blade came through without having to pay tax
Shipping prices are a bit high as you would expect but not outragious and the variety of material in US is awsome compared to Europe.
I was at Manchester on Friday seeing my wifes Mum and called in at MM and you dont get much for £50 .00
Shawn at rock shed is very helpfull as you will see in the RTH section on suppliers
It takes about 3 months for a order come through at surface mail which is one draw back
Burhouse has a lot of rough rock and it is all packed in 1kg boxes and is about 1/2 the price of a" certain " other supplier , they also stock rough on the shelfs and a lot of polished stuff for the shops
If you are up this way call in @ Burhouse's Im sure they wont turn you away especialy if you explain what you do, you go in and regester then up stairs leave all your coats and bags in a special room then its like a supermarket of Rocks on 2 floors, I went at 9 am and it was 3pm before I realised it !! There is specialist around if you have a quiery
This warehouse --- its a rock tumblers heaven !!
hope this is of some help
