So I acquired a bunch of cabochons from a friend quitting the rock habit. the cabs mostly have prices on them but not all. ranging from 4 to 25 dollars. I was thinking of trying to sell a lot of 100 of them but not sure what kind of price to put on it. I would be putting it on my Etsy store that is severely lacking attention. Lots of different types, from fossil to even a piece of tiffany stone.
any ideas of what kind of price I should set? some of the cabs could prolly use a little work still, depending on how perfect you want your cab. I just thought this would be the better way to sell, instead of single pieces. There are 100 cabs in this lot i think 97 in the video. lost one and had photo error on one. Anyways anyone got any ideas?

Hi and welcome!
I looked through the video at 2x speed. I think you have some nice ones in there, but some aren't terribly nice. Can you sell on ebay? Opening bid 2.99 for the nicer ones with a free gift (one of the not so nice ones). I think it would be hard to sell a lots so big, but maybe not. As to price, I couldn't guess. I think you should figure what the nicer ones are, get a decent price on those and sell the lot for a little more than those put together. If you ask for say, 10, a stone at 100 stones, I doubt you'll get a taker- not enough high dollar cabs in there. IMHO I think you'd be better off selling separately- especially the nicer ones.

Agree. Some are great, some so-so. Maybe small lots of the better ones with a free so-so one?

wire wrap some and keep them for those times you need a Birthday, Christmas etc gift real quick. Look on ebay and check the sold auctions, that will give you some idea of what people are willing to pay, compare the type of stone, size, quality etc and you should have an idea what the ones you have are worth, if anything.

The vast majority of the cabs, or perhaps all, would need to be re cut if bezel setting in silver, otherwise the uneven girdle and edges would create lumps and bumps and give an amateurish look to the finished piece. Most would be ok for wire wrapping, but could still benefit from cleaning up. As mentioned above, put them on e bay in lots of 3 to 5 with a low starting price and a free cab if bidding goes above X amount

I won't wrap a wonky one. I respect the hell out of you, but its that kind of attitude that devalues what I do. There are tons of wrappers out there using killer stones with perfect cuts. It may not be silver smithing but it ain't nothin' either.

I was only trying to make the point that wire wrapping is more forgiving of a "wonky" girdle, back or shape in the hands of a skilled artisan than is bezel setting and went on to say " but could still benefit from cleaning up" as I know nearly everyone prefers a well cut stone no matter how they plan to mount it.. I tried and failed in walking a thin line between insulting the seller of the cabs and those who would set them by whatever means.

I have a lot of respect for good wire wrappers! I don't think I ever told any of you that is actually how I first started, so I know what it takes. I was pretty good at it, but became discouraged that so many went waaaaay overboard on wrapping with all the loops, swirls, flourishes and embellishments that the focus was on the wrap, not the stone. Having started first in Lapidary, the stone was my focus, so gave up wrapping and taught myself bezel setting and been at it for somewhere North of 20 years.

When I hear the word dander it makes me thing of my psoriasis. So, I blocked it from my mind. A good old fashioned Lye soap with pine tar will work wonders for that. Message me your address and I'll send you a bar. The Wife makes that and a ton of other soaps. Some are just for smell good and others have medicinal properties.

I have a rare kind that blisters and I only have it on my hands and feet. So, unfortunately, it's hard for me to use coal tar ointments. I haven't tried a good coal tar soap, yet. I'll PM.
