Hi Everyone! I just got my National Geographic hobby tumbler and I feel like a little nerd. (in a good way). I'm 62 years old and I just turned on my new tumbler on with rocks, grit and water (of course) and put the little guy in my bathroom!
I feel like a chef who just put in his first soufflé in the oven and I can't wait to see what comes out! I put in a mixture of stones with no idea of what they will finally look like. I guess that is the fun you all feel.
I got the tumbler primarily for a library I am creating for my descendants but I just had to try it! I'm hoping I can give tumbled gifts to my two granddaughters in the hope that they will grow up with interests in STEM subjects including geology.
I'm looking forward to all that I am going to learn about rocks, minerals and gemstones in the near future. It is one thing to see them in books, it is another thing quite different to "bake" them yourself.
BTW, I am sensitive to profanity and bullying so please be nice if you want me to stay.
Very glad to be here...
GrandpaPatrick

Hi! No, I'm not Tela. I'm sorry about the florescent effect Walt. I'm new here and didn't know that the background would be dark blue. I like purple and comic sans and against white it looks really nice. Thanks for the invite Pat. When I looked for this site I was afraid that I would find only gymnasts.
Warmly, GrandpaPatrick
There, I changed it to white. Better? Any comments, suggestions or questions about my original post?
What is your favorite stone mix for tumbling?
What is your favorite stone and why?
As a beginner what advice would you give to me?

Howdy from Virginia! I'm Tela. Darn, I missed the neon purple! I think your last set of questions are better suited to the tumbling section. We have some of the worlds best tumblers here ready and willing to share.
