Years ago my wife and I were hiking in Zion and I saw these two rocks, I photographed them and left them. I've printed the photo and actually sold copies in a Gallery I was in. My memory tells me they were 8"-10" long, these were the only two in the area.

Iron accumulation in sandstone. It's the same process that creates moki marbles.

Look like concretions to me too. Anti concretions are the holes in sandstone where ions have migrated out of an area into other areas to form your concretions. It wasn't always dry in that area and happens slowly even in drier times over millions of years.

Iron packing water finds curious paths through sandstone, drys out leaving limonite in it's paths. as the limonite dries it converts to black goethite.
