OK, folks. Here's the deal. I have a half-barrel worth of hard rocks (agates, etc) and a half-barrel worth of wonderstone ( maybe a 5.0 hardness), both ready for prepolish. The agates took about 4 weeks in corse and another week in fine to get to this stage. The wonderstone only took 1 week in fine to get to the same point (skipped corse entirely). It's obvious to me that I shouldn't mix the two during the first stages, because the wonderstone would be ground to nothing before the agates even started to smooth out. But what about the prepolish and polish stages? Can I mix them now? After all, I'm just getting rid of little scratches left by the fine grit, right? I know I won't get a good shine on the wonderstone; it's just too soft. But it's really pretty and I've been told I can get a "velvety sheen." I'm quite pleased with the way it looks just smoothed out, and I'm curious to see what it looks like after the last two stages. But will I ruin the whole batch if I mix them at this point? I guess I'm just trying to get a full batch and avoid using those @#$% pellets!

i would think the agates would beat the wonderstone to death. i wouldn't risk it!

I'm sure no expert, but I wouldn't mix them. Going with the pellets is better than ruining a beautiful rock!

Hi all , my first contribution to this great site. No , do not mix now , stick to pallets...I do, even though it's a nuisance Jack

Thanks for the advice. This is what my gut told me, but I thought I'd ask. We have enough wonderstone rough that I think I might run another batch through fine, then combine them for prepolish.
I wanted to try cutting some into squares/cubes for possibly wrapping as pendants, and since we also have some geodes to cut this is a good excuse to rent a saw.
Thanks again.

pellets are wonderful things, they float, they bounce, they stick to the cat, they roll ALL over every which way, hours of fun and amusement for the whole family....
seriously tho, useful precautions when you've invested so much time and effort into your precious rocks.
