www.potterybarn.com/products/framed-agates-wall-art/?catalogId=83You order a stone based on a generic catalog photo You pick the color & see what arrives in the mail. The sad thing is, many people love this kind of thing. I'm not sure if they think the color is natural. I guess some people like store brand Cola & some like Coke. There was a mall store called Black Market Minerals. They had lots of dyed Brazilian bookends, slabs & maybe clocks too. They also had some cool stuff like the first Moqui Marbles I'd seen, undyed mini Brazilian slabs, tons of fossils, & meteorites. Lynn

I guess framing is a bit expensive but holy cow that is a big price! Remember at Quartzite they had massive quantities of those polished natural a dyed slabs for a really tiny price. My buddy and I actually bought a few of the more natural looking ones with parallax, eyes etc just cause we liked them and they were sooooo cheap....Mel

They also have these gold spray painted shells. www.potterybarn.com/products/gold-shell-shadow-boxes/?cm_src=AutoRel2A 3 pack of similar sized or larger shadow boxes from Michaels can be bought for $29.00 when on sale. Add a $2.00 mat and good to go. Oh the ivory linen-textured floated top and bottom mats are about $5.00 for 4-6, depending on size. So, some creative people here could make/sell these for about 1/2 of that, lol.

Thanks for the tip! I bought a dozen seeing as they were on special. Once the price goes back up, I'll see if I can't sell them on the board here and make a small profit. Noooo ... Of course not! A Chinese friend of mine did show me his agates like this and proudly explained how they are pretty good now, but just imagine how they looked before the dye faded?! In the wider community folk don't understand that is akin to splashing wall-paint over a Renoir. They see it as just being an expectation such as you'd expect your car painted wouldn't you?

To be vaguely fair, I think the shells are gilded in gold leaf... They're still not worth that though!

Shadow box frames on sale locally for 70% off now. These are pretty nice ones. This thread has inspired me to do something more classy than gaudy slices. With a local flair. Also thinking about some smaller ones with natural shells in them. Hmmmmmmmmm.
Imagine a smaller shadow box filled to the top with tumbles. That would be cool.

I believe that I, probably like the majority of the public was guided by assumption. If I was going to shell out (pun intended) this amount then I'd probably be reading the description a little more thoroughly!
