This was tough, considering my equipment, but very fun to make. Petoskey Stone with an inset Turquoise. Used Dremel to create the inset for Turquoise. Used a basic hack saw to cut around the edge of Petoskey for the wire. The entire time I was thankful that this stone is soft. This one is mine, but should be a conversation piece and maybe stimulate orders for similar. Still have lots of small Turquoise and Coral small cabs and the ear post settings for them. Have two nice opal ones as well. I just need Jugglerguy to pick up more small Petoskey (that do not meet his standards) which have a fairly flat back and suitable for wraps. Then send them my way, lol. I thought the shape and pattern of this one was perfect. Photo angle does not do justice to the top, as I made it to look like a cone from the loop to the stone.

I like the concept. The ultimate would be a jewelry grade Petoskey with a Michigan greenstone in it. Petoskey is our state stone and greenstone is the state gem. Only problem is a nice greenstone cab will set you back $50 greenstone also has the turtle back pattern Hacksaw for the groove. That is determination. They make a diamond blade for your Dremel. Seems that would maybe work? Chuck

Have a ton of Dremel attachments, but a broken Dremel. Cannot change the attachment. Stuck at a hole driller. The lever for disengaging the attachment does nothing. I removed it and discovered it was broken. Epoxied it back together and still no luck. But, could have had a worse attachment at the time. Total time for saw was about 30 minutes, not bad. Money is tight right now, so cannot invest in better stones or Dremel repair. I liked the contrast between the two stones I used. Next project will be with vintage red coral.

I like it! I also admire how you are doing everything on a shoestring budget. That's how I started, too. I liken it to having a beater for a first car and having to learn maintenance and simple repairs to keep it going. OK, only sorta. My point is, doing things the hard way pays off in terms of experience. Once you get more money to put into this, you will have a better idea of what you really need and want, too.
Do you keep up with Craig's List? I bet they always have dremels on there.
I got my groove grinder (the glass cutter kind- Glastar) on ebay for a cheap price- even with shipping.

Man, that stuff is expensive. Saw some on Etsy in jewelry. Whew! The good stuff is really something, though. I imagine that stone Chuck linked to has to be at least 1000.00.

There is a rock shop in Midland Michigan that had a bunch last time I was there. Very small though. Store name was Great Lakes Underground Chuck
