My father just went to a nursing home for rehabilitation. I brought nearly my whole first load and left it in a glass vase on his windowsill. Now every time he sees it, he will remember me...

That's very sweet of you. ;D Is the stay temporary or perm, or do you even know at this point? It's wonderful that youv'e given him something to focus on, that will allways give him pleasure My husbands father was in a nursing home for 4 months, but now he is home. His family staying close to him was very important to his recovery. Bless you, Mazanec ;D cookie

My wife and I gave up a fully profitable shop to help keep her mother out of a nursing home. I completely understand the flood of emotions you have to deal with, and the value of leaving something that means something to you and helps your father remember he is not alone. He was there when you were in diapers, you are there at a time when he needs to know. Such a little thing may make all the difference in the world. Bravo

He was living with my aunt as a caregiver, but fell and broke a rib. About the best we can hope for is that he goes back to my aunt's and I pitch in helping him. We just have to see, but the early indications are positive.

My mother took care of her father, my grandfather, for 8 years and when I moved home in '99 I helped her take care of him. He has severe alzheimer's and the last year he was home he really went down hill bad. June of 2003 we found out that he had bladder cancer and part of the reason he was going down hill was because of the cancer, once the urologist removed it grandaddy started doing better. If it had only been my grandfather to take care of we would not have had to put him in the nursing home, however, I also take care of my disabled sister and he was taking so much time that is was getting more and more difficult to get the things done with my sister that I needed too, plus his hallucinations were getting worse. Grandaddy is really happy where he is now the alzheimer's unit that they have is seperate and it is like a little family back in the unit. Tami

My aunt vows he will not stay in that home long. If necessary we will get a live-in nurse.
