I live in New York. New York is geologically facinating, but not much of a rockhound's paradise. Once every summer we vacation in the Adirondack mountains. This year we were at Raquette Lake. Everywhere I looked there were hunks of granite in every variety you can imagine. Also prevalent was iron ore. This one was my favorite, a garnet encrusted chunk of granite the size of my fist.
