As I mentioned to 1dave a few weeks back, I'm taking my sis To Utah! Con is willingly sitting this one out πβ We're heading yalls way September 18-24. We'll fly into Salt Lake City this time and hit sites along the way to Cedar City. There I hope to get quality time with Dave and check in on Lynn ( zarguy) and family. Since some of you guys have met me... orrum, fantastic5, catmandewe, @shotgunner, jeannie, Tommy what spots should we hit along our path?? We don't have any real plans so any worth while off the beaten path will be seriously considered and probably traveled! Hope many will chime in so I don't have to spend hours researching.

Not much help here Mel, I am.new to the area too. There is the scenic sandstone Quarry that Scott n Tommy went to. Also Brians Head will be snow free this time. Some folks with sites will weigh in. Enjoy your trip!

Since you're coming from the north, go to Topaz Mtn. You WILL find Topaz. Lots or a little depending on how long you stay & how much you want to work. There is a pay dig for $25 if you want. They chew out some of the mountain, saving you from lots of digging & breaking. Dugway geodes are found close to Topaz Mtn. I've never been, but the club goes every year.
I need a Holt Canyon fix. I may go if you want to go there again. Lynn

melhill1659 , do you still have access to my Google map of Utah? I think I sent you the link before your last trip. Lots of places to stop as you head south out of SLC. Topaz mountain is high on the places I like to go. You will want a small sledge, chisel and a handful of those disposable wooded kabob skewers to probe the vugs you open up for topaz. It is truly the middle of nowhere, so have extra water with you, especially if you camp over night (recommended). You saw some of our topaz, and I didn't even try to dig out any of my nicer single crystals. Now that I've done some silversmithing, I am hoping to set some raw in pendants and earrings. I have a PDF copy of a book about the area. I'll see if I can dig it up for you if you want to go. A quick google search came up with this video of Topaz Mountain and what I'm talking about. You can fast forward to about 50 seconds to get to the meat of the video. There is supposed to be some nice agate just across the road from the turn off to Topaz Mtn. We just never had time to explore. Check out my map again and let me know if you have any questions. The stop I've marked for Obsidian is some really nice silver sheen. Didn't find any snowflake to speak of, but black and silver is just all over the ground. Like we have weeds and grass here in the south LOL.
