A shout out to you all that stabilize your rocks and or cabs before working on them.........What's your recipe choices and why??
Need to buy a supply and want to do it right the 1st go around...
I have done repair work with glue,but never have had to stabilize rocks yet (And I should have-LOL)..

I took an intarsia class recently. Teacher uses HOT STUFF Orange to stabilize/ fill tiny holes. Let it dry, then proceed as usual.
Kingsley North and Amazon carry it.

Cactus juice in a vacuum chamber. This stabilizes soft materials that otherwise cannot be cut. materials have to be very clean and dry. Best to cook the rocks at a low temp for a few hours to reduce moisture content. also, should be slabs or small rough for best penetration. If you're looking to fill fractures and pits, hxtal is the way to go.

Yeah, a lot of people use opticon. It depends on how elaborate you want to get. I've avoided vacuum chambers and heating and all that - so the Opticon sits on the shelf. I've only used Hot Stuff before and it had soso results. I don't usually try to save fractured stones though - just have delicate or brittle stones - so I back those with other stones or with steel epoxy (or I've heard of lighter things being used too) instead.
