Some pretty ship there Andrea. Well wrapped. Nice choice of wire. Like it a lot. How long did it take to wrap that?

I even did a covellite wrap once which is very high in copper and it didn't turn. In fact, I've done lots of copper stones with no problems.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that cab was coated with something that either wore off in the hot water or reacted to the LOS. I have never seen this happen with a natural stone. I must have patinaed 250 things, if not more.

Yes could be. I've thought about taking it apart and throw it in the tumbler and see if it takes it off. Couldn't hurt.
