Hi all, I hope this thread ends up in the right place... computer genius I am not. I am Andrea, from Portage, (Kalamazoo, Yes there really is one:)) Michigan. I see I am in good company with fellow Michiganders.
I joined mainly because I'm looking to buy a rock tumbler, used, and am not sure if what I'm looking at will be worthwhile or not. This site has taught me "just say no to Harbor freight rock tumblers!" So I have gotten that far. I'm hoping to post my questions in the right spot soon.
Then, when I'm up and running with my rocks I look forward to learning and sharing with you all!
Andrea Ps- I make wire wrapped jewelry, so I might be able to help out some in that area.

Done Good computer genius ! Welcome from Colorado and know that you'll like the nice people on here and maybe me too. Be looking forward to seeing some of your pictures. We love pictures. Patient people can wait for a tumbler on here or check out The Rock Shed for one. Best prices and good tumble and supplies. Lots of info in the old threads on what ones work well. The one you get will be too small half way through the first coarse tumble. Yep.. A rotary will round and shape your rocks for a week to a few weeks then if you have a vibe tumbler it can finish the rest of the steps in a week or so. Bam fast after you start the vibe on them Don't know if we can deal with two wrapping Andreas.. meviva

from Tennessee (by way of Saginaw, Mi). If you are looking for a used tumbler, start watching Craigslist. I check almost every day and I don't need anything anymore (or at least until I see it ... ). I usually search Rock Tumbler and Lapidary, just to see whats new. And something I've just learned is you can extend the range of your results up to 200 miles from the zipcode of your choosing. Please post some pictures of your wraps. We all love pictures here.

Welcome to RTH. I bought my all of my tumblers from The Rock Shed. My rotaries are Lortones and I have a small ultravibe. A rotary is a must...the vibe is a time saver. My first rotary was a Lortone QT66....2 six lb. barrels on one machine. I bought that first so I would be able to do 2 different stages or types of rock at once. I eventually added a 33b (two 3 lb barrels) and a QT12 (one 12 lb barrel) and the Ultra Vibe 10mb (4 lb bowl). I still tumble but now I'm more focused on slabbing, cabbing and wrapping. Just know this hobby is very addicting and fun. Andrea This was my first order from The Rock Shed Four years later....lol.

Hi Andrea. Welcome from Alpena. It sort of sounded like you had a tumbler in mind to buy. If you do, post a picture or something and someone should be able to give you advice. I'm a Lortone and Lot-O guy, but other brands are good too.

Welcome. Also from Michigan. Metro Detroit area here. Good used tumblers do not show up very often around here. I use a home built and a few Lortones for rotary and mostly Lot-o for vibe.

You guys are awesome. Thanks so much. After seeing some of your wire wrapping I think I'll amend my abilities to just rapping... I did win a rap battle to a group if baseball players in college. (Ok, so I might have gone up and taken one of their mic's and said "you guys are butchering this... let me show you how it's done...) But, c'mon, don't do Ice Ice Baby unless you are going to do it right. What can I say, I'm a legend in my own mind. Thanks again! -A (I often go by "A" mostly because I just started signing everything A because the additional 5 letters were just Way too time consuming to type. And it sort of stuck.) PS- I know all the words to "we didn't start the fire and "real slim shady too, so unless you want me to hop up on your stage...
