Blue, rose, green and orange quartz from Rock Shed and a few Amethyst stragglers from a previous load that needed another spin.

Lance you are coming along great. SHINY ROCKS!! Did you have any problems with bruising or chipping? Did you run a slurry in the rotary and finish in a vibe?

I did have some issues with some chipping- I lost about 8 pieces in the last stage to cracks- any ideas what I did?
Recipe- ~4 weeks in a lortone rotary
Then in a Lot-O 2 days 120 2 days 500 2 days 1000 2 days 1500 4 hours borax
I used ceramic media- all the same size. But yes pieces did get cracked on their edges towards the end

Did you run a kitty litter slurry in the rotary to cushion the tender amethyst and quartz?

Skip the 1500 and use a AO final polish. You did it all correctly, if not you would have had bruising and I see none. A certain number will crack or chip in a load. Use at least half the load as cersmics.

That's a good rule of thumb for quartz and obsidian. More like a third ceramics for agate, jasper, pet wood and such. You got a great shine on that batch.

Wonderful. What were the ones with blue veins called? Just curious.

Well done batch of quartzies . Can be a bit tricky to figure out a good combo of rocks and cushion but looks like you handled it very well .

I always had a few that didn't quite make it all the way thru polish. A scratch or crack would appear. A chip would break off. Saw this in quartz and obsidian. I just toss them back in the first stage until they're ready again. BTW, great job on getting these nicely shaped!

There's no such thing as "too shiny". Yours are very shiny, maybe even shiny enough, but they're not too shiny. Great batch!

I too had to wonder what "too shiny" means? There isn't such a thing...that's kinda like too much chocolate cake!

Sorta like one can never be too skinny or too rich, lol.
Great first batch of quartz! You have learned well, Grasshopper!

Wonderful. What were the ones with blue veins called? Just curious. These are just "blue quartz" from the Rock Shed website. Raw they didn't show these veins so it was a nice surprise! They came out after about a week in rough grit
