I'm considering a fairly big purchase from this company. Has anyone had any dealings with them in the past? Thanks! www.thediamondbladedepot.com

Which blade? They all seem a bit thick. Only a few listed for hard stone.

Actually I've been looking at a cabbing unit. It's funny I emailed them with an inquiry on shipping and a couple of days later the unit went up in price by $60. Bernies has the same thing for a few dollars more, and I've used them a few times with great results. I think they'll be getting my business again

Brian, unless you really need it. I highly sujest waiting for the shows to come back after Dec. You find much better deals on new and used units. I would suspect if they raised the price shortly after you inqiured. It wont be worth it in my opinion. They look like the spiecalize in Commical stuff used more in masonary than lapidary. They are most likley a dealer of these, but may not carry them instock based on what they are mainly selling. If i was looking for this type of unit new, i would buy it from the actaully manuf. Becasue if anything goes wrong with it, they are the ones you gonna have to deal with anyway. PLus they sell the same model at two rates. With or without www.barrancadiamond.com/lap/eqp_gp6.html

Hey Brian, Bernies sells the GP-6 for less than anyone else. If you're thinking about buying a cabbing unit, that's the one I'd recommend.

Here is my advice. Their list prices are not current. If you can buy at their advertised price less an additional 10% buy it before they wake up. It is a great unit. I like the Pads option better with a $450 diamond pad kit on one end for an additioal $200 list. The belt option lists for $1040, the Pads option $1240

Hey John, I was being facetious the coupon they posted expired 9 months ago, or they made a typo, either way..............................

I believe the coupon is a typo. The somebody mentioned above would be my husband. The info he received obviously did not originate in this thread.
I checked as many sellers as possible doing multiple searches. Bernie's does not have the best prices as of this month for the object of my search. Direct from the manufacturers is expensive and, at least for several, non-existent as they simply re-direct potential buyers to "local" dealers.
Craig's list here in Florida is essentially lapidary-free. Garage sales here in Florida are essentially lapidary-free. Hard copy and on-line news media ads here in Florida are essentially lapidary-free. There are no apparent estate sales involving lapidary here in Florida.
Bob and I got scammed on eBay so that is no longer a place I will look to for lapidary equipment.
Options are narrow, now, for us.
I am hoping the coupon expiration date is the result of a typo. I, for one, would not look a gift coupon in the mouth, so to speak.

Lady B, Sorry to hear you got scammed on ebay, I have bought alot of stuff there. What exactly are you looking for? Its very likely someone on this board has what you are looking for. I think you can use the coupon by entering coupon number RTH2007 at checkout at their website, its sure worth a try.
Have a great day..............Tony

I have bought a lot of wheels on Ebay without incident. I have bought may wheels and saw blades from ebay seller Ronsrocks as non ebay transactions. My son has been burned many times on ebay buying sportscards. They and paypal don't offer much protection. I have a group of sellers that I give a lot of repeat business. On purchases from new sellers I am prepared to get taken.

Lady B, if you are interested in Barranca Diamond products shop for prices. Then call Barranca customer service and ask about the distributor. They only sell through distributors and I happen to be one. If you had a bad experience with e-bay I would think you would want to buy from a legitimate distributor in good standing with the company. Expect a long wait for delivery as Barranca just moved out of the old Star Diamond facility and into the parent company's (MK Diamond). They are trying to reorganize and I think everything will smooth out soon. They also generally put the GP-6 Belts unit on sale every Winter which will drop the distributor's cost a little. My prices always reflect the sale price. If you want to PM me for a RTH discount or e-mail me at jsgems@dslextreme.com I'd like to compete. I hate to be undercut by any legitimate competitor.

i also am not interested in buying off ebay, but i am one who likes to see what i am buying before the money is gone and the item arrives. I would like to buy some larger size rough rock, but i will wait til someone has it closer to me so i can see it first. Anyway have you tired Richon tools out of hong kong? Ralph and I bought several items from them without a problem, and they were the most resonable on prices.

I bought the GP-6, which lists just over $1000 for $750.00, then minus the discount. This is the unit with the motor. If you order from them, mention that you are a member of the RTH forum. The coupon date was a typo. When it arrives, I'll let you know how I feel about the equipment. Bob

Well I am amazed. If you got the GP-6 with diamond wheels and motor for $750 less 10% ($675) you got it below dealer's cost. I'll have to order from him instead of Barranca from now on.

I make sure I pay for any significant purchase on ebay with paypal linked to my Amex. I bought a used grinder from a guy and paid within an hour of auction close using that system. He did not ship it for 3 weeks and would not respond to emails. I complained to ebay and they referred me to paypal. I filed a non-completion complalint and suddenly got notice of shipment and a tracking number. Well the moron did not drain the oil from the saw part of the grinder and it simply dissolved the box he used resulting in damage that would cost as much to repair as I paid for the grinder! I tried to file a damage claim with DHL and was told only the shipper could file the claim unless he released the damage insurance to me. Once again I tried to contact the seller to be able to get the parts to fix the grinder through a frieght claim and he STILL refused to respond. I went back to paypal to do a damage claim and was told I could not, since 2 complaints cannot be filed on the same transaction. I tried again to contact the seller and had to file a complaint with Amex. They contacted paypal and the seller who offered no relief. Amex then refunded me the total transaction cost including shipping!!!! The seller cancelled his ebay account and I got the parts to fix up the grinder with the refunded ebay charges. It is still in my shed and get some occassional use. The moral of the story is "Don't trust ebay, paypal or the seller to do the right thing-cover your backside or prepare for a ram!"
