~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~UPDATE- Final Pictures~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Just got back from the 2017 Denver Gem and Mineral show. The show continues until Sunday September 17, 2017. A very large show which bills itself bigger than Tucson but I personally don't think so. Really large show and typical of large shows with a lot of vendors from around the world. Africa, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Peru, Mexico, Madagascar, Uruguay, the US and others. All types of minerals, supplies but I thought that the equipment was under represented. Our own member, John, of J.S. Gems was there and was very busy. He carries many types of lapidary equipment, both new and used. He is very capable and experienced at rebuilding and giving great advice on many types of lapidary related equipment. Many of our members have been to dozens of shows over the years but many of the newer members and especially those from other countries haven't. I will post many pictures to give them the feel of the show. I don't care for many of the items sold but will try to post a lot of different materials.
Lots of easy and free parking.
Miner's Coop located outside of the National Western Complex
Coliseum- 2 floors and a large tented area in the parking lot
RTH member John was busy at his coliseum tent lot booth
Jewelry and bead shows are the International Gem & Jewelry Show and Bead Renaissance, both at the Denver Mart and both open concurrently with the "Main Show" at the Mart. What are these? Noreena Jasper? Coprolite from psychedelic dinos. hehehee Maybe a zebra. Large pattern, color wrong too and seems to polish well for a norema. Seems wrong for a norema. See what I mean?
MrMike. Not noreena Jasper. I think they are from India or thereabouts. They have a special name. I forget. Will probably remember about 2am. I suspect someone else will know before then. I've never seen them that big, but seem to always be of same or similar shape.
Good gawd, that's obscene! I guess I've never been to a rock show. I've got Easternitis. Easily impressed with a half conference room at the Hilton.
Nice set of pictures but it still doesn't give folks an idea of just how many tons of rock were there. It was amazing to compare it to the shows more local to me. There were dealers that probably had more rock than entire shows near me.
Cool material and I look forward to pictures of your hair.
So where was every one. I would have expected more people. From the pictures only John had people at his booth.
I am sneaky first thing in morning before they open I already had 150 pounds of rough picked out,. Wait to see which side door are open for the employees of the vendors to enter. Eazy peasy. Does these pictures work of my hair?? fantastic5 PS tried to get pictures early in day sans people. Stopped by later in pm to grab a vibe from John before I took off over the mountains for home. Last buy of the day. Had to leave early pm to get over the mountain passes before the traffic got bad. Lots of highway construction in the summer because winters here are hard on the roads.
Hey I spent money at JS Gems... Didn't know to say hi though. Belated ... Hi John. Yeah I bought a 40 pound vibe from him for my larger agates. Grind them with a wet grinder for rough and then vibe em. Cant wait to see the Mad Rivers I got done that way.
Did you get the Mad River's from the vendor pictured above the Septarian Nodule bookends? If I had known they look like Montana's on steroids I would have picked up a couple. He had some nice Laguana agates but the better ones were gone when I got back on Wednesday. I would guess he had gotten rid of 3/4 of what I first saw.
There were dealers that probably had more rock than entire shows near me. Most of the members here have more rock than small shows.. Not me of course. I only have a piece of asphalt that I share with Rich, sometimes Dale, and always wigglinrocks . I just sent it back to him for his turn to enjoy it for a while. Maybe he'll send or post a picture of our asphalt.. Its a beauty. We call it "Black Beauty" A conglomerate.
The Laguna first thing in am, the fantasy jasper, lab, the parral, and something else. Remember the Argentine Rhodocrosite. Made friends with the Mexicans tucked behind them in the giant warehouse room. Nailed a few buckets of their opal rock, and scfi porcelain. Nice stuff especially for 2 bucks. . Happy as a bug. Really tall bug. The first two pictures are Rich's mad river, the other picture is a unique one.
Compare those to Rich's and I'll hunt a couple more mads. Not the fortificationpattern but the rind. Most of the Mads are either in HCl or Iron out to clean the rinds to window them without taking a corner off. .
