yOU SAY YOU CUT A LOT OF ROCKS, but i do not see if you ever sharpen your blade. A dull blade will not cut correctly putting too much pressure on the clutch and rock. sooner or later something has to give. JMHO

Once I get I all put back together it will have a new clutch and blade. I will definitely sharpen regularly.

Captbob, you ought to go ahead and cut some rocks on your saw, see how it works! WHAT - and get it dirty?!! LOL you are funny! Actually though, I haven't used it much in the past two months. First rebuilding our back sun room made the garage my catch-all for everything from the porch area and the saw was inaccessible being surrounded by tons of my junk treasures. Then the hurricane had me busy both before and after. Hoping (praying) for a cool down in the weather, and an end to my garage overhaul (5 year cleaning - kinda like Spring cleaning, but much less frequent) so I can get back to fun rock toys. Soon! Next project at the top of my list after life returns to "normal" is the super grinder build. Winter (Oct-April) is my fun time, summer is my get something done to show for the year and so I can rest on my laurels time.

I ordered two sets of parts for my saw. I'm hoping they get here tomorrow so I can put it back together again.

That was your saw after you took it out of the box! No way it’s still that clean.

Hey Mel, no, it's not that clean anymore! But I do try to keep it kinda clean.
I still have the blade on it that came with the saw. That is a 14" BD blade, which I believe is the MK-301. When I got the saw, I ordered a back up blade to have on hand. I ordered the MK 303c - which is not the notched blade.

captbob I finally got my saw parts today. Now to go put it back together. I hope I can adjust it correctly. Here's a pic to compare the new and old parts. Old in the left and new on the right. Andrea

Just got them today? Wow... what did they have to make them from scratch? Note to self: order a set
I (obviously) haven't had mine apart, but I don't understand why there are not threads cut in the top half as well. Have to look at the saw schematic to see if I can figure that out.
So the guy you spoke with couldn't tell you why you had the thread gouges in the top piece? Seems that without fixing the problem that it would just happen again.

Have to look at the saw schematic to see if I can figure that out. So the guy you spoke with couldn't tell you why you had the thread gouges in the top piece? Seems that without fixing the problem that it would just happen again. From the manual: "The HP14 Slab Saw uses a friction clutch block (bronze 1/2 threaded) and stainless steel threaded drive screw rod engagement-disengagement system to propel the cast iron carriage/vise. The clutch is comprised of a lower carriage mounted bronze half threaded (3/8-24) fine left hand threaded block and an upper brass non- threaded block with adjusting set screws and a center mounting screw." Several paragraphs down in the manual: "Periodically, it will be necessary to replace the bronze clutch block shoe once the 3/8"-24 threads are flattened or stripped. You may purchase the clutch block and pressure block direct from the factory. See parts lists on pages 20 and 21 to order correct parts by part number and description of part(s)." I don't know if there is anything that that can be done so it doesn't happen again. The upper plate is pressing down on the feed screw and making the thread marks. Eventually it wears out. catmandewe have you ever had to replace the pressure block and clutch block shoe on your HP saws? If so, how often? Andrea

My 18" that I use every day has never had the brass replaced, I have replaced the bearings on the arbor (now thats a fun job!) I suppose my 14" needs the brass replaced, it sits in the corner down at the warehouse now, it is on the backburner, guess I should order those parts and see if that fixes it.

Andrea, I skimmed the thread again, but maybe missed what I was looking for. Could you please save me some reading and say specifically where you ordered the parts from? I can get the part names & numbers out of the manual. Did you just call BD for the parts? What did they run you? (so I'm not shocked when told!) Thank you

Vic I was told to put wheel bearing grease on the threads of the main screw rod and the cross feed rod monthly, so I guess the clutch will get greased that way. Andrea

Thank you BD wouldn’t let me order from them directly I had to go through a dealer so I contacted The Rock Shed since that is who I ordered the saw from. I ordered two of each piece. It was around $75 (could have been a little more or a little less) including shipping. If I remember correctly the shipping was $27 of which $15 was what BD charged to drop ship the parts. It seems like they don’t have spare parts on hand because about a week after I ordered I called BD and they said they were waiting on the molds, I’m glad I ordered two sets. Andrea
