Well the more of the videos I see on this LOT O TUMBLER I really like the fact that you can remove the lid and Inspect the Rocks you are tumbling. to me Kinda makes the Rotary seem like old technology. Anyways Since all I heard say they are more faster is it possible to use it as a first stage with 60/90 Grit? Thanks ~Duke

It's a huge time investment to run the 60/90. You have to constantly keep watching it and making sure the water amount is correct. You also have to keep adding grit. Search the forum. There are a few big threads where people did all kinds of experiments on this. Decided it wasn't a good choice.

I am not a Loto user, and I'm not even one on TV. However, coarse stage grit is usually too harsh for the vibe, and shaping should be done in a rotary. Vibe users will jump in and give you the exact reason(s), but from what i recall, 46/70, 60/90, etc., should be reserved for a rotary. I think it has to do with harsh barrel wear, but I'm not sure. All I know is don't do it.

While barrel wear is the number one reason not to do it shaping is number two. Rocks do not get shaped in a vibe tumbler. If you toss a hammer broken agate or jasper into 60/90 in a vibe tumbler it will never be a smooth flawless rock no matter how long you leave it in.

Well I just had to ask the question! I understand fully now and will think of other ways to speed up my tumbling by being more efficient. Thanks ~Duke

That is a great thread. I had forgotten about it. Thanks for the revival! That thread deserves to be brought up again. Lots of labor went into that experiment. The photo evidence sure tells the story. Chuck

Thanks Randy. Very informative. That's pretty amazing work by Rob Jugglerguy. I know I wouldn't have the patience/dedication to try something like that. Dave

Cheers ~Duke Duke, there are hundreds of very informative threads out there, buried amongst the mundane, whimsical or otherwise downright 'crazy' ones. (One recent thread comes to mind) Just learn how to search for keywords with google.

Or, take the long road and remember who created the thread and look through all their old threads until you find what you are looking for.

You are absolutely correct that's why on page 6 of that post I commended him on such a concise Post very well written and informative. Let's not sell yourself short however you were the one who led me down the path to see the wIzArD of TUMBLING. And Big Thanks to rock junquie for making that post a tutorial! Every One Wins when we all work together for a common purpose that is why I joined this Forum to learn about rocks and polishing and making them look good. Id say I came to the Right Place! Cheers ~Duke
